Our truck just passed 70K and while there may be a few thousand more miles left on the pads, I may opt to replace them. The question is, should I replace the rotors too? I was thinking about just swapping out pads this time and next time do rotors and pads. Thoughts?

Personally I’d replace, I’m never a fan of pad slapping.

If the rotors are fine, no need to replace rotors, just the pads.

    Still in planning phase ...
Inspect them to see if they need to be turned as well.

    Edit:I was wrong.
My consensus is after 2 pad changes I will change the rotors. After first pad change, I just have them turned. I’ve done that on all my cars.
I agree with Bill though, I tend to drive aggressively, and thus lots of heat/cool down cycles.

Mileage doesn't mean nearly as much as how the brakes were used.

But Id guess with that mileage on OE pads, pretty light braking.

Id measure the rotor if deep grooves are anywhere, replace if needed.

If you reuse them, clean well with scotchbrite and brake cleaner.

You are going to get all sorts of opinions on this. If you don't have any brake vibrations currently and the rotors are in good shape otherwise, you are probably good with replacing just the pads. As has been mentioned above, scuff the rotors well with some scotchbrite pads, clean them, and you should be good to go.

My truck has 205,000 miles on the original rotors and drums. I've replaced the front pads 3 or 4 times and the rotors have been turned twice. Rear pads have been replaced once at 170,000 miles. I'm probably good for another 50,000 on the front, but will need new rotors next time.
