They aren't bent. There's pad material on the rotor causing it the shake.

Is there any other manual way to do this? Physically scrub the rotors off?

I would try scotch brite discs on my air die grinder or in a drill.

It's easiest to have the rotor off the vehicle so you can get to both sides without contortions.

    Very interesting read.

I found my rig very slightly vibrating during brake application....despite never towing anything or never overheating the brakes as far as I know.

I just went with the simple and relatively cheap fix. No fancy crossed drilled, vented, this, that and the other.

Advanced Auto Parts rotors. Smooth as silk. 2 year replacement warranty, including against "warping".

I put the same Advanced Auto rotors and pads on my truck last August. Couple of weeks ago I started having bad vibrations on braking. Knew this was caused by warped rotors. Took the rotors back to Advance and they replaced the rotors and pads under their warranty. Cost me nothing but my time to replace them.

Curious if you followed a specfic bedding procedure when you initially installed them, and if Advance asked you about that.

Improper bedding is a big factor in these problems.

I have always bedded new brakes. I always put on new pads when I replace rotors. I had the setup on for 11 months, then all of a sudden I started having vibrations/pulsing on braking. Advance did not question me on anything. Replaced the rotors and gave me new pads when they saw I purchased them together. Always save receipts when warranty is involved.

Well...whether it's warping or what was described in the article....either way they are covered against it.

I've only had them for 3 months. Not very long. But so far so good

Are you a stickler for proper lug nut torque? I've always heard that improper torqued and/or torque varying more than 20% between lugs can cause the rotor to deflect enough to cause pulsation.

I'm religious about setting my torque wrench to 83 ft lbs. So, that probably wasn't my issue.

BTW....a little pro tip I picked up many years ago from someone much wiser than me. ALWAYS run your torque wrench back to zero when you're done with it. It supposedly can develop some sort of "memory" in the mechanism that can make it less accurate if left for long periods of time at a setting above zero...especially higher settings.

I may not be describing that correctly. But you get the idea.

+1 on rotor problems. 2018 with 9000 miles. My rotors warped bad at 1500 miles. Came down the long steep hill from work on a cold March evening and bam; hard vibrations and pulsing at speed. Not too noticeable around town. I went the Advanced route for replacement warranty. Dealer wanted $185 plus tax to turn them...
