I appreciate the infos im leaning towards getting a more reasonably priced tire and I really cant get away from all the positive reviews ive been reading about these tires. ordering online with the road hazard warranty and having them mounted/balanced at a better shop sounds like a good route, since the Pepboys franchise stores have worse than horrific reviews in the area I live. thanx again and pics are appreciated.

    Pictures. I run them@ 26 PSI

I changed the shock and struts to Monroe's. Softer ride, but they are not as good as Bilsteins

I have just under 1500 miles.

Pep Boys, Walmart, Amazon are about the same price. I personally prefer to see them when buying tires.

I think you will be very happy with them, they are a deal and then some and great tires. And your wallet will be about $400 heavier.

I am not sure where you live, and the type of driving you do. Mine is 100% city and highway. A friend of mine has The Kumho Road Venture AT51's. He does loads of driving in Catskills, NY (gravel, hills, etc) and absolutely loves the tires.

    Stay Well.

mines a daily driver, about 100% onroad/highway, yes I agree I went to Pepboys to have a look at the tires in person but they had none at that store if I wanted them they would have to order. $400 heavier wallet is exactly what I need, the stock oem dunlops are at the end of the line and wont hold air too well, and I need something before winter, thanx again

I had Akebono pads & some Amazon drilled rotors on my Subie a few years ago. Zero to very little brake dust & stopped amazing. I was told I would have noticable brake fade with the setup but never once noticed it. Not sure how they would work out on the much heavier Tacoma?

I've had the Akebono pads/Centric rotors for about 4 months now and they're great. No brake dust whatsoever so far.

Update on the Akebono pads/Centric rotors after 2 years.

Took the Taco to a friends shop and lifted it up to check the rear brakes. They were ok. While on the lift, I checked the front brake pads, they were worn no more than 25% (75% life left). Remember I drive mostly in stop and go traffic.

Took a mike and checked the rotors, they were perfect with no sign of warping.

Hope this helps those who are in the market for quality rotor/brake pad combo at a reasonable price.

    Hi

Curious if you purchased these tires and your initial observation.

FYI, I inflate them to 26 as per factory recommendation for the original tires. I have tried 32, 34, 36 and they slip more and have a rougher ride. 26 seems to work best in my case.

    Thanks

    Alex

How would you compare the Akebono's performance (stopping power) to OEM or EBC or Hawk?

I put the Akebono pro Act ceramics on my truck paired with brembo blanks. At first they were super grippy, but once they burnished in a bit the performance didn't really change much compared to my OE pads. A lot less (as in none what so ever) brake dust though. I flushed out all my lines as part of the brake job and again, no super noticeable difference. If anything, the little bit of shake I had coming off the interstate is gone thanks to new rotors.

I have used white box rotors (no name) for the last 10 years in the shop and have only had an issue with one set of drums on a cobalt. Bosch perfect stops seem to last good but sometimes the castings need a little grinding to get them to move free.

3 ways to make sure your brakes last.

    1. Make sure your brakes move free after install and every time you lift the vehicle. If it's at all tight you have an issue! Fix immediately.

    2. Buy a standard and use the gears to slow down. Defensive driving doesn't cost much time and is better on fuel and components.

    3. For you guys with the autos. A long brake application to a stop light creates a lot of heat in the pads. Instead of sitting for the light with firm pressure on the brakes causing a hot spot on the rotor (warpage) shift to neutral and allow the brakes to cool with no force on them.

While I admit to having this habit, it aint a good one. Brake pads are cheaper than clutches.

Just don't use the clutch to shift... can't wear it out when it's always engaged.

    Update

Akebono pads/Centric rotors have held up well. No issues whatsoever. No dust and these brakes just do not wear fast, and I am in stop and go traffic most of the time.

Very happy with the overall performance of the Kumho Crugen tires. I must admit that they are "not" as good as the Michelin's I had in wet weather, the rubber on the Kumho's has hardened a little, whereas the Michelin's stayed soft for a long time. But they cost 1/2 the price of the Michelin. I am a happy customer.

Hope this helps those who are considering the brake, tires mentioned above. You just can not go wrong with them.

    Stay well

    Alex

    Update

Big mistake buying the Monroe shocks / struts. Heard clunking sound from the front. Upon checking, the lower rubber bushing on the front driver shock was busted and elongated, the passenger side was not as bad but on its way out. I replaced them with Bilsteins and will never ever buy anything except Bilsteins.
