It should. All the newer cars do.

My 07 FJ does, only because you can tell driving with rear window open. I dont know how you'd really smell it much in a Taco?

When I turn the air to cold (with or without the A/C, with or without recirculation) it smells for a bit if I haven't used it in a while. I've only had it for a few months, but I suspect there is mold in there somewhere.

Yes up hill is when Ive smelled it also...why do only Toyota products have this issue? I am / was a longtime listener of Car Talk on NPR with Click and Clack the Tapper brothers and people called in with this issue only on Toyota products...the guys on there said it is because Toyota uses inferior catolitic converters...and you smell it in the rain and on inclines when the car is under load because the cat can't keep up... however I had no idea Tacoma had this issue too.

Lol every vehicle has that smell. There's sulfur in fuel additives; your engine isn't burning it completely and your catalytic converter is storing it and then releasing it as hydrogen sulfide when you add load to the engine and force more air through. It only happens under a greater load (in your case going up a hill) and it is only for a minute or so.
Again, every vehicle with catalytic converters do this even if you cannot smell it. Different manufacturers have their cats in a different location, aerodynamics, having the back window rolled down, etc. Please do not ever take advice from people named "Click and Clack" again unless you are five years old.

You're wrong on one key point: the car guys on NPR were effing awesome, and it was a great radio show, and everyone should listen to the re-runs.

If you smell sulfur frequently under normal conditions then it could very well mean you have bad cats that aren't doing their job well anymore, usually comes along with a P0420 code or the like. Since the OP has a new truck I would find it very unlikely his cats are bad unless they're defective, in which case they are federally warrantied for 75k miles or 5 years.

God help you if you have to buy new OEM cats on your own dime though...OEM cats on a newer vehicle = $$$$$

Also, sulfur smell? Is this like one of those weird individual things? Like weirdos who think cilantro tastes like soap?

If you're smelling sulfur all the time, maybe it's time to make different life choices. Might not be the vehicle!

First off, Tom and Ray AKA Click and Clack from NPR's car talk are a couple of geniuses both as it relates to cars and comedy...their show is a freakin CLASSIC....never to be duplicated and oh yeah they have PhDs from MIT so they aren't just typical radio hacks. My truck has only produced the sulfur smell when pulling on up hill runs.
