My 2017 4WD Off-road Tacoma has had some odd behavior immediately after single section of trail at Hollister Hills. It is a section where the truck is certainly stretched to its suspension/torque limits, but yet attainable.

However, on 2 occurrences the truck has posted a warning message related to "Check Charging system" after been racked against the rocks which exceed my 13+ clearance... This latest incident led to power steering failure as well as a "check oil pressure" message on the immediate trail descent and the truck outright stalling... I could not immediately start it... I was fortunately on a descent, and so could utilize gravity to drop the clutch and get it running again... After mostly rolling to the bottom of park, I could not longer find any messages in my digital dash, and eventually continued to 'wheel a bit more and then drive 70 miles home with no issues...

Has anyone had such issues? Any suggestions on root cause?

    Thanks...

Sounds like a loose connection, you're probably just going to have to go through wiring, start with aftermarket doodads.

Original battery? Time to replace it.

Water crossing? Wet fan belt slipping? Muddy? Is the belt tensioner good?

Start with basics and go from there.

You can get all sorts of warnings with a bad battery, AGM's are more tolerant of off-roading. Power Steering failure implies a slipping belt, so not a bad idea to pop it off and inspect. Dirt& water and it's going to slip, so make sure everything is clean before heading out.

Sounds like u starved the oil pickup and stalled it. The power steering / battery light is just cause the truck wasn't running.
