Thank you for this write-up. I know this is two years later, but it is helpful in informing me. I have done a lot of wheeling on a bone stock TRD 4x4 and have found myself wanting a little more clearance. My 4600s are shot, and I was thinking of going to 5100s. I still am, but I did not really want a lift (except maybe to level it, as I don’t have a lot of weight). So, it sounds like you could run 5100s with minimal (or no) lift and still have 33s (or 265/75-17) as long as you flatten out the pinch weld?

    4 run, 2 don't
When I had my Tacoma, I ran an extremely mild lift (about 1") using Fox 2.5's.

5100's are crazy popular, and a good choice for wanting a little lift.

I can't recall the specs on them, but one thing to add to my old post is that some aftermarket coilovers do indeed have a little more travel than stock variants. Depending on the shock will determine how much more travel, and doing things such as the pinch weld mod, along with running OEM or quality CV axles, will ensure you don't run into binding issues when utilizing that full travel.

When I ran 32's (235/85/16), I didn't have to touch my pinch weld at all. Not all tires are the same though so YMMV.

Yes, but you'll also want to ensure you buy wheels with proper offset (usually 0mm to -10mm), and proper backspacing (4 to 4.5"). Otherwise you could deal with the tires rubbing on the upper control arm (also might require aftermarket upper control arms)

I was looking at some 17" wheels with a -12 offset. Backspacing is listed at 4.5. but that is a good call out.
