I am looking at the 4" lift kit for my taco and I was wondering if anyone has it on theirs and if they like it, any thoughts or suggestions? Reason I am looking at it is it's so darn cheap... 1k already have the Lowrange off-road leveling lift kit 3"/1".... Just want a little bit more

    enough to go over stuff
Cant do 4" on a 4x4 without a drop bracket. Drop brackets are horrible. Rough country and procomp make the worst lifts.

If all you wanna do is raise it a lot better options exist that require no other parts. And No customization.

I've also been looking at this lift as well and would like to see pictures of trucks that went with the 4" lift.

there is a good guide to lifting the 16's in teh supension section. good read and i recomend it. but even some 5100's and springs will set you back the same cost and give you better ride quality.

Nope with those you wno't go higher. but i would certainly look into other kits. Just depends on what you want. if its just hieght and nothign else. go for the rough country. i think youll need mroe than just the kit though. fabrication and what not

FWIW, I put a Rough Country 3" lift on a 99 4runner. It was just the front spacer kit with new shocks and springs in the back and only ran me about $400. I knew I was getting what I paid for, but didn't want to break the bank on my first lifted vehicle. The name says it all; it's a rough ride, but it did and still is serving it's purpose to this day. I've had it on everything from dirt roads to 4x4 trails and it did fine on everything. That being said, I would still go for something with a more reputable name this time around.

Agreed I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need some aftermarket UCA's when I do this

I am thinking about getting the low range kit for mine, do you have any pics? How do you like it? What size tires are you running? Sorry for all the questions I'm just trying to make my mind up. I think I'm going to stay with my stock sport wheels and 265/70/17 tires.

FWIW, before I bought my Tacoma I had a PC lift that a few buddies and I installed on my Titan, and installed 3 RC lifts on other Titans. I've also looked at the RC lift for the Tacoma, but it was the 6" system. Looks nearly identical to the systems we were installing.

I don't see why people rag on the RC systems that much. Or the PC systems. Obviously it's a drop bracket system, and has no advantage off road, but to go as far as saying that they are bad systems is a bit out there. It's hard to tell the difference between the two, or a Fabtech lift, or a rancho (In the other truck markets). The only one that I'm not that familiar with is the BDS that everyone seems to regard as the best drop bracket system. But if you treat it for what it is, it's great.

IMO, if all you want is 4" of lift to clear some bigger tires and a more negative offset, you'll be happy with the RC kit. And at the cost, you're not breaking the bank. The best part of any of the bracket lifts is that anyone can install them in a driveway with basic hand tools, spoken from experience doing it. Their instructions are great. And from reading the install for the Tacoma, you have to make two cuts. That's pretty easy for "fabrication".

Again, I've never installed one of these on a Tacoma. But truck suspension is truck suspension and it's not terribly different from platform to platform. So the quality is likely what it looked like with my Titan and others that I installed, which I give a thumbs up if all you want is a tall mall crawler. I'm no mechanic, just a guy that enjoys turning wrenches on his own stuff. And I don't care to promote any particular system. But from what I've seen, I wouldn't worry much about it if it's what you want.

image.jpg This was taken the day I put the kit on I did it all my self and it took roughly 4 maybe 5 hours just cause i didn't have all the tools I thought I needed. Just make sure if you do it yourself have a good torque wrench and extra large jack stands otherwise it will really be difficult. I love it and it rides just like it did when I drove it off the showroom floor ( I literally drove it off the showroom floor lol) I just bought some xd811 r2's 17x9 with 285/70r17 and I'm told there will be no rubbing I will post pics next Friday when I have them installedimage.jpg

Thanks for the response. I had 265/70/17 Cooper Discovere AT3's put on today and my LRT 3/1 will be here on Wednesday. I'm going to install it myself next Saturday. I have all the tools but you have me worried about extra large jack stands. I have 3 ton jack stands I used to use for my Ram but I don't think they're extra large. How tall should they be? I believe mine are 21 or 22 inches.

You are gonna need more than that because you have to jack from the frame to loosen the load from the suspension..... You might be able to get by but it's gonna be real real close! I got the large jack stands from harbor freight for like $15 I think, they worked fantastic.

Thanks, that is what I figured. I got some large jack stands over the weekend so I should be good to go.

Oh and don't forget red locktite you will need it for the bumps tops and the 4 bolts under the wheel Hub assembly ( it's a paint in the butt ) be sure you don't cross thread them. Here is the step by step video for doing it yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rxcd2duh1gM&feature=share
