So let me tell you why I loved the cover enough to buy it and hated it enough to send it back. Why I ordered it:

    1. Best warranty of any hard cover. Lifetime replacement if you have any issues. I've called every other manufacturer and asked about what happens when the seals split or separate from the cover. Every single one said outside of the warranty period you'll have to buy a new one. Rough Country said we'll ship you a brand new one.

    2. Ease of install. I watched all the install videos and it looked like an easy install as well as an easy removal if I wanted to completely remove it and install it again later. Sadly, they changed the rails and it negates this point.

    3. Price. GREAT price for a good cover. But seriously, points 1 and 2 were more important to me.

So anyway, on with the story. Below is Rough Country's install video as well as two youtubers. In all three videos the install (and factory rails) is the same.

On my kit, there were two rails per side, with neither fitting well and neither feeling solid. In the following picture, the rail on the left mounts to the truck and the rail on the right mounts to the RC rail. The rail on the left is not a good fit on the truck. The brackets that mount to the factory rail are a hair too short for a solid fit. The second rail uses those grabber clasps in the middle to mount to the rail you just installed and you have to try to get a snug fit while getting it level.

Here it is installed. Notice how it angles down at the rear? That keeps the cover from locking into place because it pushes the rail down further. All bolts are snug and all pieces mounted correctly. But what's weird is, the right rail did not angle down and worked fine. My guess is that the 2nd rail was bent/twisted and no matter how hard I tried, it was not going to straighten out. There's also a fair bit of distance between the bracket holding it and where the cover snaps on.

Another angle of the 3 rail system:

Mine also was received damaged which makes returning it easy.

I will say that their support is fantastic. When I first unboxed it (before installing it) I noticed the bent up plastic retainer. I called to see if they would send a replacement part. The answer they gave me was "I'll send you a new tonneau cover. You can swap covers, swap parts, whatever you need and just send back what you don't want." I'll gladly support RC in the future.

Great write up. I’ve used a fair amount of rough country stuff in the past but I don’t currently have any of their products.

It’s always nice to hear about a company with good customer service. It makes me much more likely to try their products.

I had a similarly positive experience with Yokohama customer service. Hands down the best customer service I’ve ever experienced in my life.
