Rough Country Speedometer Calibrator

Did this mod over the weekend, super easy. Decided to finish up the Meso chrome delete while I had everything apart. Happy to report the speedo is now reading correctly for me!

 

Just installed the Rough Country Speedometer Calibrator on my 2018 TRD Sport! (YES IT WORKS FOR 2WD!)
It says for 4wd, but it works for 2wd too! (VERIFIED BY ME!) I was worried about that cause it only says for 4wd...
I put in the programming 265/70/17 to 285/70/17. According to Gmaps & Waze its dead on...MPG's on gauge immediately went from
13.9 to 17.1 and total @3/4 tank went from 256 miles to 305...I'm just f'n Stoked right now! Finally it reads right!
Cruise Control does show a 3mph difference, but I can live with that!

FYI: I'm in Cali and they sent it to me anyway! Nice! Ordered it on Sunday Morning, and got Tracking Sunday afternoon!
Guess they work on Sundays, and just shipped it!

 

I think someone in this thread may have touched on this already but can anyone provide feedback on how the Rough Country unit works with Manual transmission Tacoma's? Does it still fix the speed, MPG, and ODO readouts? I know RC states that it will fix shift points but seeing as how there are no shift points on the manuals, does this feature cause any issues with the manuals?

 

Can you explain how the cruise is off by 3 mph when everything else is correct? I don't understand. Thanks.

 

The displayed cruise control set speed is not corrected by the Hypertech/RC calibrator.

 

Assuming you're talking about the digital speed shown, not the analog speedometer needle?

 

Correct, the digital cruise control set speed number, not to be confused with the digital speedometer.

 

So the digital and analog speedometer will read correctly, but when you set the cruise it will show the digital speed you set as lower? Will your cruise hold the speed you set?

Just wanna know what I'm getting into before I get that far.

 

The speedometers, digital and analog, are corrected by the calibrator. The cruise control will hold whatever speed you set it for. The only thing that's not accurate is the set cruise control speed number displayed on the MIF.

Just so this question doesn't get lost... quoting it again. Anyone here with a 3rd gen manual want to chime in?

 

mine is accurate. check pic i posted last page, there was a firmware update to the unit i applied before installing that i'm thinking maybe fixed it?

 

Yea, I was gonna mention that but because I haven't done that update yet, i couldn't say for sure.

 

Hypertech just told me this will not work for the 2021 because "the computer feeds and wiring is different". I didn't think anything had changed for 2021

I know there was a pause for the 2019 version. Not too surprising that the 2021 doesn't work with their current equipment. Did they at least say if they were planning on making one for the 2021's?

 

They said..."We will add it to our product request database at this time and will let you know if/when it becomes available".

So I've heard this both ways and wanted to clarify...does this also calibrate the odometer to the new tire size???

 

OVTune can do speedometer re-calibration???? This is news to me but good to know.

No. OVtune cannot correct the speedo and odo.
