-New wires and Plugs, with Coils
    -New Fuel Filter
    -Oil good
    -Timing Belt is good
    -Air Filter good

up til 3 weeks ago, my truck ran great.
one day in traffic it started shaking real bad. (felt like misfiring)
-day was super hot and stop and go traffic
did tune up, and the idle is NOT as bad but still present.

Shop said, random misfire. need to inspect more.
-I can't keep throwing parts on their guessing. Any suggestions? As I took over the job and changed out the Ignition Coils myself (learned from YouTube)

CEL come on spurratically at certain RPM's and usually up hill when it gets rough

Idle is not as rough but still present.

please help, I've read thru a lot of threads and that's where I got the idea to replace my Fuel Filter. lol, yea... after I gassed up too. (rookie move)

After a good drive check the brakes. See how hot they are .You might be rubbing . If you have no check engine light . Mine was super hot . And I change the master cylinder. And re greased the bolts . My problem was fixed.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I dunno maybe try a new engine coolant temp sensor first then maybe try and find a lower mileage ignition control module but I could (and probably am) waaay wrong.

No really I have a few cars that had bad master cylinder a Honda that brake pedal would sink to the floor. Or the Eclipse that would leak inside the car . Now it brings me to the Tacoma I have thrown just as much as you have I even put a fuel pump in . But I took off my front wheel and had my girlfriend hit the brakes and it would not release . That's when I starting to look at the back and the front. I bought a master cylinder my problem was fixed .

MAF clean and it runs smoother but lite still comes on under load at certain RPMs.

I'm now leaning towards a vacuum leak.

usually I take to the mechanic. however times are time right now so here I am.

CEL is not always on and idle feels a bit ruff. I'm stumped.
I'm in the East Bay, California area if anyone wants to troubleshoot with me for delivered pizza and beer. (just pretend we are neighbors) I can drive to you.

hMmm... good question. I'll research them now as I really don't know what they are. thanks:)

a code of random misfiring was given when the shop did a computer readout.

would these trigger a code specifically?

there's too many issues that could cause this. your cam/crank sensors could have broken off inside for all we know. but because they still read, they could still "missfire" and cause the truck to run semi properly.

in the mean time run some chevron gas or gas with techron additive. maybe some high octane. ALSO, full or empty tank of gas makes NOT difference in changing the fuel filter. don't worry. just wear safety glasses as there is pressure built up and it can get in your eye.

double check the plugs, wires, and coils. something may have slipped since they were installed. did you get the right plugs? are they double electrode at least? was a plug not properly tightened and did the combustion cause pressure to slip by and pop a coil/boot out of place (very unlikely, im being silly)?

MAKE SURE THE WIRES AREN'T TOUCHING ANYTHING THAT'S GROUNDED! after a recent flood from a storm, i drove my truck around town and through some deep puddles. after getting out of them my truck ran like crap and i could hear ticking from the engine. the wires were shorting out on something. ran fine minutes later after it dried. still runs perfectly fine couple weeks later btw

also, im assuming that your CEL only comes on rarely and showing a misfire on cyl 1. right?

yes. misfire happens when uphill or at idle.

the sweet spot seems to be 68 and runs smooth.

    anything else is rough.

    I APPRECIATE ALL THE INPUT:)

yes, I checked all wires, plugs and Coil Packs.

    no vacuum leaks found.

I was reading I can place a long screw driver onto the base of the injector to "hear" constant clicking... and to compare with others to see if it is at least working.

What I should've disclosed FIRST is I used a Seafoam Additive prior ALL THIS MESS:(

I'm wondering if it clogged my injector on Cyl 1
I used it because my buddy did on a similar truck and it worked wonders he said.

I'm here because I am running out of money and I need to pass smog for my past due registration:(

Youre throwing parts at the truck, but you have not even determined why the CEL is on? o_O

misfire led me to believe sparks/ wires and coils. so I eliminated them as the culprit...

needed a tune up anyway and threw in the fuel filter as a bonus.

when all said and done, the Cyl1 is still misfiring. leading me to believe it's the injector corresponding to cyl1.

yes... I. starting to feel that I'm throwing parts because if the misfire still exists, then the Coils DIDNT need to be included in the turn up and I just wasted 300 bucks:-/

How do you know cylinder 1 is misfiring. Do you know what codes are stored.
