"dethawing"? If there was such a word in the English language, wouldn't it mean "to freeze"?

Do this. If the dealer inspected it and said "everything appears to be normal", then tell him you want to trade it in, just tell him you don't like the color.

So I guess the question is... “if I dump my truck in an ice water crossing, and the dealer announces it as normal, will I still be able to use my warranty when shit goes wrong later?”

Real talk though, why is everyone concerned about the front diff? The breather on those is pretty high in the engine bay. I’d be more concerned with the rear diff and the shorty location of that breather.

Tagged for updates. Hoping your buddies truck is okay. Although not a truck, we did a deep water crossing during our most recent enduro trip in CO, and my bro dunked his bike at almost 13'k feet. I stripped it down, pulled the plug and we got all of the water out. Then did an oil change once we made it to town. Did another 500+ miles after and all was well. Like others mentioned, oil change is cheap insurance. Also I'd recommend to put in a new air filter if yours got soaked or frozen somehow.

    Update....
Drained the oil and it was clean and clear! What a relief. What I thought was part of the oil cooler is the oil filter and why it was leaking oil I don’t know. It’s not anymore. Funny how messy it is the do an oil change compared to the 1grfe.

As far as the front diff, I think he’ll just leave it. I tried looking for it, but does the breather go up higher into the engine bay like the gen2? As far as the rear diff, it was out of the water the whole time so no concern.

To say the least this was an extremely lucky learning experience for my buddy. He’s by no means an idiot but is new to owning a truck. As someone said earlier, “Good decisions are the product of experience. Experience is the product of bad decisions.”
