I recently bought a 2023 off-road, and for the first couple hundred miles it was such a smooth ride. I came from a 2002 4runner with 250k miles, so it was a huge improvement in the ride. At about 400 miles, I suddenly felt like the ride for much worse, especially on the highway. I feel like every bump shakes the car. This coincided with me having a bakflip mx4 tonneau cover being installed. Has anybody else had this experience? Is this some sort of break in period of the suspension or did the tonneau impact the ride?

Edit: I bought the car new with 16 miles on it.

    Thanks,

Start with tire pressures. Anywhere over 35psi has poor returns on ride quality with these trucks. 29-30psi cold is spec and is best.

Also cold weather impacts shock performance, usually will ride a little more harsh.

Check your tire air pressure. My sr5 with the factory tonneau cover rode rough till around 5k miles before it settled in. Tire pressure is crucial. A few psi too much, these trucks get bouncy.

I appreciate the input. My tire pressure is 35 I believe. The dealer might have filled them up when they installed the cover. I will give it shot.

Balance tires. Maybe a weight fell off?

You added a bit of weight, OR has soft suspension/valving in shocks.

I also installed a Bakflip MX4 cover on my Tacoma and haven't noticed any change in ride quality. Probably something else is causing it.

That cover is what, 50-75 lbs. That's like having a small kid in the truck with you. Not going to change the way it rides.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Maybe put some weight in the bed

Everyone feels things differently. His rough ride, maybe someone else's smooth ride.

35 is on the upper end I think (please double check though!) I usually keep mine at a cold 29/30 and that works well for me. If its a real pain, I'd just take it back to the dealer & see what they say.

it will ride rougher when the weather is warmer because the tire pressure goes up
