I suppose I could get a separate propane on demand heater and plumb it after the pump for hot water?

This is really cool and priced way better than any other system I've seen. I've got a 3rd gen 4Runner so I don't have the bed pocket, and only one interior storage spot, but I'm thinking out how I could mount this.

How sensitive is the pump to dirt/dust, etc? Would it be bad to leave it out totally exposed?
Anyone ever installed one in a 4Runner?

Im looking into installing one in my 3rd gen 4runner as well.Thinking about mounting pump in cubby and either running lines to a homemade bracket by the receiver hitch or just stuffing everything in cubby.

Pump is marine grade, and generally anything marine grade can handle the elements pretty well. But of course as with anything, the elements will always take a toll eventually. It is a sealed unit so dirt and dust should not be an issue.. i would however be mindful of mid build up as this could affect cooling and pump life. I also have a portable unit built into an ammo can, although i have that priced at $240 currently. Pics are a few pages back. The pump just need to be on a solid surface with some room for ventilation, and id recommend being away from sensitive electronics just incase the pump, hose, or hose clamps ever failed somehow. Other then that your only limitation is the length of hose included from the pump to quick disconnect (3ft) but that hose can easily be replaced with longer hose for about 0.50 per foot from any hardware store. Wish you were local id be happy to test fit one for you t4r guys. Let me know if you have any questions i can help with

Right now I'm thinking about either mounting inside in the cubby or pulling the interior panels and mounting it back there. The only issue then is plumbing the hoses inside, just in case there would be a water leak. I'm also trying to think of a mount either in the engine bay or in the rear bumper or something that keeps everything outside.

That portable one in the ammo can looks really good. How is it powered? I see the cigarette lighter port and assume it goes through that somehow.

For power i used two 9 foot coiled 12v extensions and soldered them together to double it to 18 feet (extended length). Since its coiled its only maybe 3 ft max at rest but extends out. It has a male cigarette socket on each end with led power indicator. Here are pictures of my test kit. Any new orders of a portable kit will be built to order though.

I have decided that final pricing of the portable kits will be $45 more then the built in kits. That will make them $245 shipped. I have also decided however to extend the same $20 discount i am currently offering on my built in kits for the portable units. This means for a limited time portable kits will be sold at $225 shipped. They will have a 1 week lead time however. ( @Coopsdaddy i know we discussed this recently, so here is a pricing update for you)

Here are pics of the portable kit complete:

Finally got mine installed this past weekend and tested it out - no leaks at all and super easy to install thanks to the simple directions provided by @ProForce

Tempeture was awesome, even at night I was in shorts and a t-shirt. I camped at Prewitt Ridge, there was plenty of space. I think there was only like 3 campsites occupied at the whole place.

How was it getting in? I'm north of that area but we've been wanting to get down before summer ends but can't tell what's still closed due to slides/construction
