Rowher is open. Drove by it last week and the gate was open, been seeing a bunch of people post photos from going up there recently on the FB SoCal Offroad page that I follow

Your stock Tacoma will be fine so long as you stay off the Rowher 4x4 and especially the Lookout Trail.

You'd probably be ok on the Rowher 4x4 trail with a stock 4x4 but I wouldn't do it if you're new to the game or solo. The backside of the Rowher 4x4 trail is insanely steep with some rocky shelves.

The main fire road that goes through Rowher up to the top of the mountain and down the back is 2wd friendly though. The areas where it intersects with the 4x4 trail are clearly marked with signs.

I ran rowher on my fully stock Tacoma. Can’t tell you exactly which trails, but I know @eon_blue would be able to tell you since I’ve ran the same trails with him a couple times. Either way, the point is that unless the trails changes drastically since then since it’s been a while, a stock off road 2gen and my tires were pretty worn too.

Went yesterday and had a blast. My stock taco did great on the main trails. My friends that I went with didn't want to try any of the harder trails so didnt test to much. I also have the predator tube steps so my clearance isn't great. I want to take them off and go back and hit some harder trails.

Sounds like you'd be up for the Rowher 4x4 trail then, but yeah I would definitely ditch the Predator steps first or the trail will take them off for you lol. There's a lot of ruts on the main 4x4 trail and some rocky shelves where you'll flex out the suspension, those low hanging steps would likely get mangled.

If you start from the backside (where the Bouquet Canyon Reservoir is) you have to ascend a few really steep hills, I would only go down that way (not up) until you're more familiar with it. Just let 4lo take you down

The Lookout Trail over there is fun too but I usually tag my steel skids and sliders on that one

I haven't done either trail in over a year so they might be a little more challenging now with last winter's weather storms, and the fact that Rowher gets more and more popular every year. A lot of traffic on 4x4 trails usually means the ruts, shelves, etc get deeper and deeper over time.

Sucks, heard about it a couple days ago and figured this was gonna happen. If the trail itself got torched it'll probably be closed for years while they allow the environment to recover before letting people wheel there again. Wonder if they figured out what caused it. Last I heard it was considered 'suspicious', guessing firework activity

Damn this sucks, I was just talking to my brother about heading out there since he got a land cruiser and wanted to try it out to make sure everything worked.

As far as I know Drinkwater is still open but I'd definitely try and verify that before going all the way out there
