i hear a lot of people saying that royal purple is one of the best oils to use in their pickups. Anyone know the benefits of it?

Royal purple is excellent oil, made for racing. If it's a daily driver, in my opinion it's overkill. I run Mobil 1 synthetic in all my vehicles, it's kinda pricey too, but not quite as pricey as royal purple.

I’ve switched from Royal purple to Mobil to ams. I feel like Mobil ext performance is the best bang for your buck.

I just switched to Royal Purple over the weekend. I ran some BG engine flush before I drained the old oil out and refilled with RP and the engine seems quieter and a couple degrees cooler on the Scanguage. Maybe because the oil is fresh and that's why the engine is quieter. I will keep an eye and ear out.

People like to claim they got 300k miles out of their motor because they run XYZ super expensive synthetic pretty colored oil, but more than likely the factor(s) that correlates highest with high mileage motors is the fact they changed the oil regularly, kept up on the other maintenance items, and didn't bounce it off the rev limiter.

Look, just change your oil on a regular basis. It really doesn't matter what oil you use or how much money you spend on it.

From what I’ve read it sounds like that stuff is thin and can cause leaks. From what I’ve used, my brother and I used it in a motor we built for his turbo MR2 years back after initial break in. It had a front crank seal leak pretty shortly afterwards. He switched to Valvoline 20w-50 and had no issues after that.

I’ve also seen guys post in here that using it in your transmission makes for some rough shifts.

ECGS says it’s the worst oil you can put in your diffs.

We ran RP in our mini bikes long ago, worked okay till we were racing and my brother reached down and pushed on the governor of his 5hp Briggs. Over revved it and kapow!!

It was funny watching him push his mini bike home.
