Hi TW. Bought my first DCSB V6 in sept. Have ~2500 mi now. I have some of the same tranny issues noted on the forum despite having the TSB performed when I bought the truck.
The truck has an annoying tendency to accelerate slightly when turning the wheel. Only noticed when slow speeds in reverse or drive. Not a huge deal but definitely suprises you if you're not used to it. It may be a "normal" thing but my old Silverado didn't do this. Hope someone can enlighten me. Posted a video to help explain symptoms. Thanks.

    Power steering.
P/S pump adds load to engine, engine adds RPM to idle to compensate.

Happens on every car and truck with power steering but for some reason it's particularly exaggerated on the V6.

EDIT: some cars/trucks don't bother compensating so you notice a drop in RPM instead.

Mine has tried to kill me with no steering wheel input. I have run into my house. I've slammed my trailer and knocked it off the blocks . It's tried to stuff me into the back of cars in the drive thru. Rapid acceleration. 800 RPM to 1,000 or 1,200 RPM. Sometimes when I'm coming to a stop it will push through the brakes. Toyota knows.

I figured it was the p/s pump. I suppose this is not something that can be fixed then?

How rapid can it be with a 200 RPM boost?

Just look at the build thread
Fixed? There's nothing wrong with it. Its doing what it was designed to do.

It's not terrible, just annoying. I must apply increased brake pressure to compensate for the surge. No other vehicle I've driven has done this. Thanks for your input. I will just live with it.

You sit in your truck ... comfortable like and with enough brake pressure to hold it still and have it flash 200 to 400 RPM and tell me how rapidly it takes off.

The the OP, GM doesn't compensate engine speed with P/S except for some old models. So trying to compare your tacoma to an old silverado is not valid. 2014+ silverado 1500's have electric streering

Yeah.. So my father's 2016 Silverado doesn't do that either, at least not to the point of the truck surging forward. I'm assuming based upon the response here that nearly everyone has this and doesn't annoy most. I like the truck too much otherwise to sell it. I will continue to brake carefully:).

    Yeah that looks perfectly normal.

TBH, my idle speed is affected more than that by the AC compressor cycling. Oh, and by pressing the brake pedal when the engine is cold - that makes the RPM rise quite noticeably.

Do you need to know, or care?
Normal, it'll do the same when the A/C compressor kicks in too. As said, load will cause RPM increase to compensate.
