RPMs and shifting the 6 speed

    At what RPM do you shift given flat terrain? Is 2500 too early? Do you run at a certain rpm for the best mileage? I find the tranny is sluggish if I'm below 2000 on flat land

    I usually shift around 6-7k. I like to hear the sound of the engine screaming for mercy before I give in and let her take a full breath of air.
    But for best mileage, unless I'm trying to merge onto a highway, i usually shift around 2000-2200.
    If gunning it, it will get up to 3500, but even then, don't always see the need.

    I can't let the wife know
    2500 rpm for me. Even with my slow driving and low rpms, gas mileage sucks around city (16-17 mpg). On open heighway I get around 19-21mpg.

    I usually shift around 2500-2800..I think. It's not something I really pay much attention to though.

    King ext travel coilovers, Icon tubular UCA's Rear-King "Tundra" 2.5's, Allpro Expos, TRD cat-back, Hurst/Core short shift kit, etc...
    2500 sounds about right for normal acceleration. In town and stuff I usually shift at 2000-2200.

    I shift my 2.7L at 2000 at every shift except 1-2 at 2500. Not sluggish at all. ;)

    I don't think OP has a smaller 5 lug or a 4 cyl though.

    3 inch lift by dealer at purchase
    On my 2013 V6 I shift at 1500 rpm most all terrain, and I only use 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th and it is not sluggish. I usually keep the RPM's around or under 2000 for MPG. I average around 22 mpg mixed driving with a high of over 24 HWY. I try to always run a TOP TIER ethanol free Detergent Gasoline. For me it is mostly Conoco.
