    "Neither system has saved me"

You have to actually go off road before ever needing to be saved by either, Christian... not the bumpy dirt lot of your videos, but serious desert stuff... Why not get out and use your truck the way is was designed for.. by Ivan Stewart pre-running and racing Baja! Maybe you will appreciate those systems as I do, if you used them in real-life situations! Oh, what a feeling! LOL

Got my prerunner stuck in the sand on a lake shore once. Didn't see the big rock that I parked one of my tires directly in front of so when I tried to go the rear started to dig. Moved said rock, locked her up, and got out without digging myself in any further. Probably could have gotten out with airing down, but since my truck was brand new and I hadn't used the locker yet I wanted to give it a whirl.

Was out on a fire road about a month ago and figured I'd play without ABS for a bit. Pleasantly surprised that she locked right up despite not being used in 3 or 4 years.

A stock Tacoma is not designed for prerunning and desert racing... If it were, all the LT guys just wasted their money. Also, I challenge you to find a race truck relying on ATRAC.

On topic - pretty sure I wouldn't have gotten back up this unassisted without the rear end locked up:

Pre-running isn't racing... and not all off road racing is fast. Lots of people pre-run the race course at 'normal' speed and going slower may be needing 4WD in sand, silt, steep grades... including low range.

Ivan's input to devloping the TRD was to make the truck 'Baja Proven' (a term used by the late Dick Cepek before most of you were born). Making the Tacoma a truck that off the showroom floor could go into places that previously required after-market modifications. That it does.

Oh, and just fyi, A-TRAC is a slow, crawling low range system (just like situations that required lockers, before)... not a race application, and I wasn't suggesting that.

I am saying the truck is good... better than good as it is sold to us. Go Toyota!

I use the locker every time I am offroad, so i guess it saves me every time I wheel?

    Dave,

A-TRAC and pre-running Baja have nothing to do with each other. The vast, vast majority of prerunners and race vehicles are 2WD.
