I have nothing to do with anything here but been watching this thread from the outside as a person who fabricates rock sliders for locals in SoCal and man, this seems like some absolute shite customer service o_O

I got a response, they'll get back to me with a date. They told me 8 weeks when I ordered, Ray has been very nice in our interactions.

I'm sure they'll turn out good when they arrive.

First, thank you for providing additional order info.

Second, a quick scan shows that you're rocking the access cab vs double cab for the rest of us. You got lucky, they had a set in stock... There is no other explanation. :D

Third, at the rate they're going, no one is going to receive anything until the third week of April. And it'll be three people, prove me wrong... Please!

Fourth, @Shmellmopwho ...I'm in SoCal and I didn't know. :frusty:

So I wrote them an email last night asking when I should expect the sliders to be delivered, since it has been exactly 21 weeks from the order date. They replied almost immediately with the following email:

"I went to the warehouse just now to check on your order. The short bed sliders got welded up this week, they'll be cleaned up tomorrow and sent to the coater's. Should be completed and shipping out to you in about a week or two. I attached a photo of your sliders.

Sorry about the wait, we spent some time improving the strength and testing the sliders so that we give you the best final product we can provide.

If you have any more questions, feel free to contact me and I'll do my best to help you out. Thanks for choosing RRW!

    Cheers,
    Michael"

Once again, @illogical is correct calculating dates. As long as RRW actually keep their word of course.
They also sent me a picture of the sliders.

"A picture is worth a thousand words" ...right?

So lets process the latest tidbits of information. The email stated "I went to the warehouse just now to check on your order." this statement combined with the picture of two completed sets, the palette of "mounting plates" for the sliders that haven't been built yet and the miscellaneous pieces of laser cut tubing laying about in the background means they're only building the orders in house at this point. There was no mention of contacting the "manufacturer" for a status.

I'm going to go out out on a limb here and say that what ever relationship/partnership they had with the first manufacturer is no more and that they've struggled to find a manufacturer that can build the sliders for the price point that they were already sold at. Not wanting to eat that loss, they've gone in house and likely have one guy cutting and welding the sliders. This was eluded to on Feb. 1st in Post #609 and would explain the huge delay since December when they stopped cranking them out in mass. Their manufacturer should have been moved by now but production has been halted since then. Seriously, they've been "in production" since February and we know that three whole sets have been delivered and not even in order.

Those welds... I... uh... if nothing else, this confirms what I'm saying. It's not the original manufacturer. All sets made/delivered in 2018 have different welds. Different in the sense that they were better before. How do I know? Take a good look at the welds in the picture... they're incomplete/inconsistent on some of the tubes and the weld lines on the gussets are... uh... (say something nice)... they're mostly straight. Go back and look closely at the pictures of the sliders in Post #574, #580 and #592. The craftsmanship is at a different level.

Here's the worst bit... "Sorry about the wait, we spent some time improving the strength and testing the sliders..." Did they? Really? Because the design has not changed. Sure they were improved along the way. Version one still shown in the first post and version two with with support gussets and an additional support piece for the kick-out, but version two was already well into production. The picture shown is no different than version two... again, reference the pictures of the sliders in Post #574, #580 and #592. Perhaps they needed to test the new welds to see if they would hold? Or they're just making more excuses vs. being honest about what's been going on with our orders.

Heck just for fun... go way back and look at the picture in Post #502. That's a completely different scale of production than what we're seeing now.

This is promising and I really do hope they deliver as promised. But what concerns me is that @Setogu was just told another week or two. Order dates and order numbers should mean that he should receive his set before you (as well as two other members listed here)... but this wouldn't be the first case of them providing false lead times or delivering out of order. :(

Here's the list again for reference:

Jan7 - Post #596 status was shipping mid Feb with delays from manufacturer moving

Feb1 - Post #609 status was welding in a week, emails in a week and production starting in house

Feb9 - Post #620 emails went out with "place in line" status

Mar11 - Post #641 sliders came back from powder coating today

    Mar19 - Post #669 one confirmed delivery

Mar21 - Post #685 problems with laser cutter, production reduced to about three sets a day

    Order #1844 - Oct 24, #2 on list - @Taco_Outcast
    Order #1853 - Oct XX, #4 on list - @dunkshaw (Received Mar 19)
    Order #1855 - Oct 28, #6 on list - @JonesMGMOR
    Order #1884 - Nov 07, #8 on list - @Setogu
    Order #1916 - Nov 10, #10 on list - @JEM1BLK2019
    Order #XXXX - XXX XX, #13 on list - @187dust
    Order #1993 - Nov 21, #17 on list - @Hans7
    Order #2004 - Nov 22, #20 on list - @vegangunguy
    Order #2046 - Nov 24, no email received @illogical
    Order #2084 - Dec 03, #31 on list - @CSlatts99
    Order #2139 - Jan 03, #34 on list - @calenatar
    Order #2190 - Jan 22, no email received @Str8shooter
    Order #2241 - Feb 12, no email received @FishnTx
    Order #2242 - Feb 12, no email received @Evileyeswatchin
    Order #2283 - Feb 26, no email received @WRO

Everyone feel free to post your order info and I'll add it to the growing list... it will help establish a better timeline for others thinking about ordering.

*Post #685 Setogo received an email that his place in line moved from #8 to #5... no one else has received an updated "place in line" so the original numbers will stay for now. Any orders after mid March would likely have different "place in line" number and skew the list.

After seeing the end product, and all of the delay, I may just cancel my order and buy somebody else's sliders

That's what ended up doing. Its too bad because these were some of the best looking sliders around. I have a feeling the quality is not going to be there like they used to given the latest pictures added to this thread. I ended up going with a set of RCI sliders from Truck Brigade since they have free shipping.

I just got a response, 8-10 weeks because they're going to a new supplier of tubing..

    Not too encouraging.

Between the lack of communication, look of the build quality on the latest picture, and overall frustration from these I would much rather give my business to a different company at this point. These sliders look good, but being 16 weeks in and I'm not even towards to top of the list doesn't instill a lot of hope .

Just got an email from RRW.

Hey there, Michael from RRW here.

This email is to give you a little heads up on what's going on with your rock slider order. We originally intended on using a fabrication source that we found when we got overwhelmed with orders initially, but after seeing their work, we decided we couldn't send out the twenty sliders they initially made for us. The quality of the work wasn't to our standards, and we don't believe in sending out sub-par products.

Shortly after reviewing our options, we decided to scrap all twenty sliders, and start from scratch with an in-house fabrication team, who we could closely keep an eye on, and make sure they were working to the quality standard we believed in. Unfortunately the initial setup and acquisition of the talented welding crew took a little longer than expected, so your order hasn't been able to be pushed out by the initial wait period we quoted you.

Fortunately, we've got everything running smoothly now, and we've been pushing out 5 sliders per day. We've got the first batch on the trucks heading to the powder-coat center, so the orders are going to begin rolling out this week in order of purchase date.

We truly hope that this hasn't caused too much inconvenience, but we couldn't ship you a sub-par product just to save time and effort. We stand behind our products, and we've taken every step to ensure the product you purchased will be the last slider you'll ever need for your taco.

As the orders start to roll out, you'll receive a confirmation email with shipping details attached. Sand blasting & powder-coating takes about 3-4 days per batch of 20, so it will be steadily shipping out beginning this week. Again, I apologize for the delay, but rest assured they're on their way to you very soon.

    Cheers,
    Michael R.
