Because I dont want to weld on the frame and cook off the coating. I dont wheel much so I dont care about the strength differences. I dont intend to ever actually hit the sliders more just for peace of mind

With a DIY kit, ideally it means grinding the slider leg lengths to account for the joggle, i.e. tack everything while the frame plate is firmly bolted to the frame.

The strength difference is minor. Some even say that bolt-ons are stronger (depending on design) because of that massive 3/16 or 1/4" plate running down the frame (much thicker than the frame).

You paint over the welds, tho. It's not a big deal.

I went weld-on because of cost. $800 bolt-ons or $250 for a weld-on kit. Was a no brainer for me.

I went this way because it was like $550 which is worth it to me not to weld the frame.

Different frame design. 1st gen is mostly boxed so you have no choice but weld-on. 2nd/3rd gen frames are two-layer nested C-channel aft of the transmission crossmember (like Hino haul trucks). Weld-on sliders would be weaker, because all the loads are on the outer layer. And you'd burn up the sealant between layers.

Anyway, there are multiple companies offering bolt-on sliders without similar fitment issues, but it doesn't help the OP who already spent money on the RRWs.

Bolt on sliders that require DIY fabrication and welding.....fail!

You're talking about where the frame gets thicker right? And grinding the legs so that the sliders still run parallel to the frame?

I just made the suggestion because it seems like the company you ordered from isn't great about 1) making things that fit, and 2) communicating.

I'm starting to see that. My buddy bought their regular sliders and they fit fine. I really liked their design so I thought this kit was the way to go

"Form in place" means the frame plate will be bent when fully bolted in. Grinding the legs keeps the main slider tube straight without a large amount of preload.

Yeah, over the years I've seen a LOT of companies that pop up then mysteriously disappear after a while. They offer really cool designs and all that, but in reality it's essentially just some guy in his garage or workshop with some fabrication tools. They get too big for their britches, and can't keep up with demand.

I've never even heard of this brand, so I can't say if that's the case here. I was about to go with a custom fabricator shop near me, but then I saw the 4Xi sliders and was sold. They did all the bending and cutting, I just did the fitting, and welded it together. I like the kits because you can customize the fit and angle the way YOU want.

Anyhoo, I bet you can section out that bracket, and weld in a new chunk to make it fit. That's probably easier (def faster) than dealing with a company that's hard to get a hold of...

Need to start by wire brushing all your rusty welds and everything behind where your plates will cover on the frame, then spray it with POR15 or similar. Then lightly spray your primed/painted sliders and the POR15’d metal with fluid film, install sliders and finish the project off with full frame coating of fluid film (or similar).

Yeah, that's a burn for sure. Hopefully they get back to you soon, but don't wait on them for too long. I generally have a pretty low tolerance for companies not getting back. I had that problem with CBI when I got my kit bumper. Still pisses me off that they offer no instructions whatsoever, and it took weeks for them to get back to me with simple questions. I ended up getting together (virtually) with some othe rfolks with the same bumper and we figured it out.
