A guy is selling a smart cap local to me for $3300 unassembled, good deal? Seems like a lot with no extras. I’ve been looking for a cement dcsb shell for a little while with no luck and was planning on spending around 1300-1500 for one of those.

One sold local here for $3400 that was almost a year old. They are a hot commodity and it will likely sell quick.

I paid right around $3500 brand new for mine. $3300 seems like a good deal to me especially since theyre hard to get right now.

I think they are close to $3800 now (depending on model) and no longer offer free shipping so add another $200+ to that.

edit - and be prepared to wait a few months

Which one is it? Your offer is unassembled. Was there an attempt to assemble it? Is it in the original wrapping? If you don't now I would find out. These things assembled incorrectly are not easy to fix. If it's new in the box I would grab it immediately.

It is brand new in the box. He is selling an assembled one for 3800.

Considering how scarce they are I would buy them both and sell the other one at a profit.

So he’s selling one or the other. Non built one is 3300, built one asking 3800. I really don’t want to spend that much money on one and especially after reading a lot of issues with them on the RSI smart cap thread, are they really worth it? Sounds like they are a PITA to assemble and install correctly.

I bought an early generation RSI SmartCap off Craigslist for $3300 about 3 months ago. It was assembled and used. Worth every penny. No leaks, great condition, and no wait.
I don't think these will lose value anytime soon, if you hate it, I think you can get your money back out of it pretty easily.

If you haven't, might also be worth checking out the RSI SmarCap thread.

    Good luck with your hunt!

Are you worried about any warranty claims since you bought it second hand?

I sent a note to RSI asking about the 3 wire rear light assembly vs the 2 wire it came with. I was told, go to the website and submit a warranty claim. I was VERY clear that it was used and I was 2nd owner. They didn't seem too concerned. I haven't done it, just running the 2 wire for now. But to answer your question, no, not really.
