Anybody have any experience running the prinsu top rack in the smart cap. I read one person had issues with it touching the windows in the doors when they open but it's only 1.5 inches wider than the rack rsi makes and I dont have windows to worry about.

I have installed the Prinsu top rack on an EVOa longbed smart cap last month. Although not windows, I didn't want the rack edge to potentially scratch the finish on the door.
Added this on the lower edge of the Prinsu side rails.

Happy with this solution, and it fits snug!

I ordered mine Nov. 8 2021 and still haven't received it. Original estimated date was Mid January then "30-60 days outs" when I asked in January then "No estimated date" and then "may possible June". Anyone ordered theirs around the same time as me or later and received theirs?

I called Rhino Adventure Gear in San Marcos and they had two RLDs available in three weeks. If you’re not set on the RSI, people should really look at the RLD. IMO it’s built and designed better, and utilizes only three weld points.

I ordered mine on November 29th 2021 from Off Road Alliance. Believe I was told February or beginning of March when ordering. Spoke with customer service this past Wednesday or Thursday and was advised by the end of the month. I had to wait 6 months for the truck so I’ll be fine waiting a little more.

I also ordered mine end of November and at the time had a February estimated ship date. Haven't reached out again since then but have not yet received my cap. End of the month would be great though!

compared to what? It’s a steel canopy, just like the RSI. Have you seen an RLD in person?

The RLD is too squared off up front near the cab. Looks generic like it wasn’t meant to fit that application. It also can’t be delivered to your house so you can install yourself.

I looked at those before about my smartcap They just don't fit my cosmetics as what I was looking for. What I mean is they were in my eyes ugly but that doesn't mean they're ugly for anyone else. They do offer a paint match and some other things that smart cat does not. I still would stick with markup considering what it does for me. But RLD does have a decent product.
You know it is OK to have an opinion even if you've seen one or not. Pictures work fine for most folks. I personally have looked at them and I don't care for them either. That's why I bought a smart cap.

It would be nice if the steel caps were made more specifically to fit the body lines of a Tacoma. They could look really good. But it seems like the companies are going for a more universal fit amongst mid size and full size trucks. Seriously though, why buy a ford ranger and put a 4K cap on it?

I've seen it on the road, but not long enough to closely inspect it.

The geometry just looks too square; I don't like the rear face not having any angles to it and sitting more-or-less flush with the tailgate, for example.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder though!

Let’s do this, take three pieces of steel, fabricate them specifically for a Tacoma, and see what you come up with for $3500. The RLD is an absolute tank, and was purpose built to handle anything. I guess if form is more important to you than function (as seems to be the case on TW with everyone running raptor lights and front bumpers without winches), then just go with a POS fiberglass topper for $3k. I have two buddies order RLD’s for their Tacoma and Silverado after a week long camping trip…they were both set on RSI before seeing my RLD. Ymmv…both are good to go!

That's why you go fiberglass. Steel to break, roll and curve that would be so labor-intensive no one would buy it. It probably over 10 grand. Especially working with stainless.

bingo! Which is why you see the RLD squared off…it’s only 3 pieces of steel.

No need to get defensive. Like you said, YMMV, I'm happy you and your buddies like your RLDs. Form to function is a spectrum, and I'm not going to lie and pretend I'm on one end or the other. No pro grille, raptor lights or winch over here though I do own SCS wheels and an RSI cap, both varying in degrees of form and function.

When it comes to the RLD and the smartcap it's all about utility and personal style. Neither is better than the other. RLD is actually a offshoot company of Smart cap. The factory in Texas I am sure they'll make and sell both.

So is smartcap. In fact both factories are across the street from each other. I've talked to numerous individuals in the company and they said both are a part of the other. They're building a facility as we speak in Texas. It should cut the cost dramatically over fiberglass due to the shipping.
