We have not had a chance to test fit any Prinsu racks on the top of the RSI SmartCaps. But we do have plenty of Evo caps in stock should you decide you'd like to get one.

I decided to just text RSI’s reps and they say it’s an M8 nut that slides into the rails- with that and the Prinsu brackets, not sure there’s any reason you couldn’t make it work... famous last words?

81998EF6-D5FA-4DD6-AC4C-8F304F4E367B.jpg So I just got my cap the other day from Off-road Alliance. Awesome service.

I didn’t check TacomaWorld before buying. Everyone’s complaints are totally valid. It is a little short for the bed. I knew it would be. Also get why people don’t like that it doesn’t have a lip around perimeter. Water intrusion could be a big deal. But it comes with a high quality gasket (that I was expecting I would have to switch out for another, most caps come with terrible gaskets) and I feel comfortable with its ability to seal from the elements.

I don’t have much to add. I’m very happy with the purchase and the cap. I live in So Cal so chances for leaks are not a daily thing I worry about. I do camp regularly in the winter and I will be building out a slide/drawer system so I need to make sure it is waterproof. But I don’t think it will be an issue.

I think it looks great. I like the angles and whatever usable space I’m missing probably means I’m packing too much (for my purposes). The build quality is aces. But I do wish the cap was about an inch longer. I’ll probably be moving mine back a bit. And I’m gonna figure out a way to blackout the logo.

I’ll be putting an RTT on it. Just working out the load bar/rack situation.

Thanks for doing that - that was my exact question earlier about accidentally getting locked into the bed when sleeping back there even in a shortbed- Nice to know you can reach the latches from the inside in that unlikely situation.

Mine finally arrived. Had a club meeting last night so put the boys to work and we had it together and on in something like 2 1/2 hours. Still need to wire up the brake light. The load bars and the promotional "smart light" are on backorder still. One question though, I could have sworn I read somewhere that there was a lens or whatever for the cargo light to still be functional and shine into the canopy? The cap is profiled out around it but solid metal.

My guess is they use the same side panels for different brand truck configurations that have 5' beds. So yes, that is a manufacturing decision to save cost instead of making different panels that are marginally different in length.

One observation after one day of ownership and some seriously heavy rain overnight (I live in Vancouver BC); it's not the canopy you need to worry about leaking, it's the truck bed. Next time I have it off I think I'll take some Sikaflex and seal up the gaps at the front of the box; where the top end rail against the cab meets the side panels. I did have a little leakage at the tail gate.
Also as others have stated, the wiring instructions for the brake light and the included pictures in the manual suck. It does seem to be missing a part. They mention plugging this in between your existing harness, but there appears to be nothing in between to actually do that?
After I took the tail light out (which I had to google as I thought I was going to break the damn thing getting it out) I was wondering what this doohickey is that's attached to the inner fender at the back of the brake light?

oh, and where did you end running the wiring through, the knock out for the LED bed lighting?20201010_123451_HDR.jpg 20201010_123531_HDR.jpg 20201010_123459_HDR.jpg

The plug is apparently for the LED bed lights option.

So I wasn't imagining things; this screen shot is from a smart cap on a Raptor, but it clearly shows the clear lens for the rake light/cargo lamp. My Tacoma cap is solid steel....

Unfortunately I don't have a rack (Prinsu or otherwise) to mount just yet- so I haven't ordered any M8 nuts... although when I'm ready to I think I'll see if RSI or @OffroadAlliance.com have them as one of the reps (Jake for RSI) said they would have extras.
@Dguer006 Are you having difficulty trying to mount a Prinsu? Keep us up to date as to what you're finding...

@acupunk Spoke to a guy I found on Instagram with a prinsu top rack, he told me he just used a dremel and shaved down the square nuts to the width he needed. Ill try that and share the pics.

We've also been working with FrontRunner as another option for racks and cross bars. They have plenty of options available overseas, but haven't brought any product stateside yet that will fit the RSI tracks. Hoping to have some options here in the next 30-45 days from them.

Does anyone know what size bolts fit the 8 pre-tapped holes in the ceiling of the smartcap ?

I received an email back from the RSI rep on my questions; his reply in red below.

There seems to be something missing to complete the wiring for the brake light?Yes, it is as our supplier has just now begun to ship them to our distributor. If you would be so kind as to go to our website, scroll to the “Warranty” button on the bottom, fill-out and submit the form, we’ll see to it that one gets sent to you ASAP.

Why is there no lens over the notch for the vehicles 3rd brake light and cargo lights? On one of the promo videos, which I think was for an F150, it shows a clear lens. The full-size applications have the Cargo Light lens because the larger dimensions allow for a larger cut-out that then allows the light in. Because the mid-size applications have less space between the top of the front window and the roofline, we can’t cut a big enough hole to ensure the Cargo Light shines through.

I also have on backorder (paid already through my local Cap-It distributor) your load bar kit and as part of their pre-order promo the "smart torch". Any idea when I can expect those to be delivered?Additional inventories are arriving in December.

Thanks for that- Just registered and warrantied. Almost forgot I could have a working brake light on the cap... I never see it after all.
