    Hey everyone,
Ive been on a road trip recently and wanted to update this thread with my experiences:

My RSI smart cap has started leaking water through the side windows. Yes the windows, and not the doors themselves.
It hasn't rained in CO all summer and when I visited Michigan it didn't stop raining the entire trip. This was the true test of waterproofness of the cap installation and cap itself.
I've filed a warranty claim and RSI is sending me new gaskets for the windows and they claim this will fix the issue. It will be another week or so before Im able to install and then I can update again.

Also, the bed on the tacoma is an issue as well. I used foam inserts where the corners are and water was still getting into the bed. Then I applied some silicone to fix the issue but it didn't work. So there is water coming in from all angles for me right now. It's very frustrating.

Im going to build a hoist and pulley system when I return home and fix all of the bed crevices and then reinstall the cap.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what materials to use on the corners of the bed?
I just got some "Flex seal tape" and have it on hand in case I need it but Im thinking more foam or something else might work better.

Also, the locks on my cap are very very sticky and almost feel as if they are going to break prematurely because of this. Today I got some graphite spray and applied it inside of every lock and it seems to work much better already. I only tried each one quickly but will update again once I get back and have tested them a bit more. It will be interesting to see how they hold up through winter and if they'll get iced up or whatnot.

Im open to suggestions and feedback and appreciate everyone who's reading.
    Cheers

with everyone that owns one of these, does it come standard with the positive pressure system to keep dust to a minimum? if so, how well is it working? I am considering a similar mechanism to keep dust out on my cap.

If you want to go crazy, pull the cap and pull the plastic bed rail caps and use foil tape to seal the top of the metal bedsides. Then spray the underside of the bed with water and see where it comes from and seal those areas with silicone.

My cap is very dusty inside still. I think because I haven't sealed it well against water either. I live in SW CO and its extremely dusty..... so its kinda everywhere all the time.

I feel the cap has reduced dust in my bed driving our dirt road, and I live in a really dusty part of the world, but how much of that is the positive air vent versus just having a cap? I rode in the back the other day (trying to track down a noise under the bed) while my wife drove about 25-35 mph. I was surprised at the amount of air entering the cap through that vent actually, but the gaps you can see toward the tailgate... well, I just don't know if that amount of air will do much to really keep dust out with gaps like I have, especially at lower speeds. BUT if your bed was sealed up better than it comes stock, yes I think the positive pressure will actually do what it's supposed to nicely. Edit: Higher speeds should really create a solid positive pressure

@microsnook Sorry to hear you're dealing with that man, keep us updated. It'll be a good test of what we can expect from customer service. So far I feel RSI has done a good job with communication and the snafu's that have come up with a new product launch, so fingers crossed.

Anybody know if these caps can support a RTT?

Yes, they can definitely support a RTT.

Took the cap on a hunting trip in the snow in and it was as cold as -11 one morning up in Craig, CO. I had not sprayed the locks with any kind of lubricant or anything to prevent it from freezing up but right after this picture was taken, I was able to open up the locks and open the windows. Only issue happened when I tried to close the locks afterwards. Snow fell in the open lock and prevented me from re-locking it. I had to get as much snow as I could out of the crevices of the lock and then it was able to close. But at this point, couldn't open it because the ice that had formed in the components of the lock. Used my jetboil to heat some water and threw a little bit on each lock and it was enough to get the ice that had formed around the lock mechanism to melt and it worked. But of course refroze afterwards when I got back to the motel. Did this warm water thing a few times this trip.

I have a canvas softopper (CAN-BACK) and I barely get any water in my setup. I used some neoprene weather stripping I got off Amazon all along the bed rails and header rail. The only slight advantage the canvas may have is that it drapes over the front and rear near the cab and tailgate but I'm still always impressed how little water I get. I'd try some of that neoprene, it was 2" wide and maybe 10 bucks for 20 feet.

    @OffroadAlliance.com

Are you still offering free shipping? I'm in the market, I have a lot of local dealers out here in the BA CA but none seem to stock this item. About to order from the RSI site

So next question. Load bars, full rack or folding rack? Also it looks like Front runner is making a rack with RSI feet now. :spending:

The cross bars are definitely the most popular! Or at least that's what we've seen so far. The full rack and the drop rack are great products as well. Drop rack is so unique but isn't ideal for RTT's. And we're still hounding FrontRunner to bring their RSI compatible kits stateside ASAP.

The nice thing about GFs that don't support you is that you can get rid of them without involving the law
