RSI Smart Cap

Not Yet, Smart Cap has had way too many set backs on the Texas plant. Thankfully it is now on line and producing caps. They are focusing solely on Tacoma's right now and we should see them start shipping to distribution in the coming weeks. Its been a long wait for us all with some of the domestic applications will be tied up until fall. We cant wait to get these sent out to you guys. Thanks to all for your patience. Here is a little video from last weekend's Big show. It was nice to finally reveal the bed replacement to the public.

I'm guessing now that the texas plant is up and running inventory of tacoma caps are going to grow. I was hoping to get one by april/may, sounds like it might be possible

 

Yes it is. We have ordered a ton of extra caps that are still available.

 

will these caps have the New & Improved latches?

I can't imagine not having windows. It is great to hang out in... and the windows look great!

I have not slept in it. We use ground tent(s).

Agreed, however its best to get caps out to customers than wait for latch refinements. Trust me with a cap with old latches and a Tray bed with old latches, I am very eager to get them in my hands as well.

 

Can someone tell me more about these new latches? I’ve been holding off on ordering one, while looking for ways to personally upgrade the latches.

 

rumor has it that they'll be both water/weatherproof (which is a concern mostly for those of us who live in areas with frequent sub-freezing temperatures) as well as being operable from inside the cap. it has been suggested that they can work as direct replacements for latches on existing caps. they have been reportedly publicly displayed at at least one trade show as well as having been shown at the factory or to certain dealers, but further details or photos are apparently verboten. estimated delivery/availability has been a moving target.

So it’s all hearsay, currently. But still very promising or should I say hopeful. I live in southern Canada, so having better latches would be great. It rains a lot here and will have snow for about a week or two through the year.

 

I would not say Hearsay. I have seen, felt, used, pictured the new latches. However, nothing has been released to the public. The timelines have been terrible on everything Smart Cap for a while, but you will not be disappointed in the final product.

I’m starting to thing new RSI locks are like Robby Gordon SPEED cars. Everyone’s in line for theirs, some have been seen and tested, but no one I know has actually received theirs.

 

I'm being lazy and don't want to search. Is/will this be available for the 6ft bed? I only saw the 5ft on your site.

 

EDIT: Sorry @gixxerphil , I thought you meant the cap. Realizing after the post below that you were referring to the bed replacement.

 

Not currently only 5ft fitments so far

 

Looking forward to those new latches being released. Bought my Smartcap in Florida. Drove up to North Carolina, and the latches were frozen shut. Haha
