RSI Smart Cap

Less than a week with my SmartCap and just discovered that the new redesigned sliding glass windows on both side panels can easily be opened even when "locked" simply by pushing in on them with very little force. Happened while I was washing my truck.

To say I'm pissed is an understatement. Why did I spend a premium on a cap that is totally unsecured?

 

Well that's not good. Is this something you can easily replicate or was it just a one time thing? I have a cap on order and hope this isn't systemic.

My cap is stuck in shipping purgatory, but this has me a bit concerned.

 

Unfortunately, I was able to replicate it easily for about an hour along with my 15 year old nephew. No matter how I closed and "locked" the windows.

I will post a video of it tomorrow after I calm down a bit.

 

That stinks for sure and is way less than ideal. A sign that a new design was rushed. It's likely the previous designs they have done never had the issue or they would have had a test to catch it.

If it is that bad and systemic they should come up with a fix for it and some kind of retrofit process. Doesn't help you at the moment but will give you some help in the future.

Your dealer Mike will know now of course, but call RSI customer support and send them the video too, that should speed up a fix for them. I'm guessing they are so swamped with orders any info you can give them directly will help the process. And hearing it from multiple sources will let them know the gravity of the situation.

I have one of the early model EVOa’s produced in South Africa. It’s been on for about a year and half and it’s been solid. No leaks that I have come across. I’m actually going to remove the filter up top in the next week for maintenance and see what it looks like.

 

Woahh woahh woahh - Get in line!

No complaining about the new windows not locking until RSI address those of us with old locks that freeze and can’t be opened from the inside.

Told for over a year retrofit locks would be engineered and make available. Been patiently waiting on their “list”

Sucks that you’re having issues, but the video title is misleading. I don’t have any issues with my RSI cap. I hope RSI helps you out tho.

 

That is not a well thought out design, but maybe RSI will have a quick solution for this. I am waiting on delivery of mine as well.

 

Frustrating. Every time I get close to placing an order for an Evo Sport another issue pops up that keeps me from clicking.

Are there any other 3rd gen cap owners experiencing the same issue with the sliding window opening when "locked"?

 

Should have gotten in on the first gen. Still loving mine so far. Not being able to open it from the inside isn't ideal but I have a 5' bed and was never planning on sleeping in mine.

 

That isn't ok in any sense. That's a pretty bad design error.

Great news. I was stuck in a phone tree

 

It's weird, because the tracking still shows "departed Portland on 5/3"

 

Mike and Dan at Mike's Custom Toys and RSI have gone above and beyond to get this addressed and they already have a fix for the issue to prevent it happening on more doors and are sending me replacement doors. Outstanding customer support on this.

 

Now I'm sad I didn't watch the video earlier today when it was still up. Glad that Mike and Dan were able to jump on this!
