Yeah, I'd appreciate that too. Although, the production date on those latches has slipped a number of times and I'm honestly struggling to understand why at this point.

But yeah, as an OR resident, I'm in for a smartcap from @Mike's Custom Toys s as soon as those latches get into customer shells.

+1. Bought black friday and being in Colorado, and primary usage expecting to be camping inside, the new latches are crucial. That being said... I can't wait until these start being released.

I just did some research through this forum and it was on Aug 31, 2020 Offroad Alliance said they reached back to RSI and heard they were researching a latch capable of opening from inside. Not sure of their R&D department but seems a bit slow.

I was looking at the latch on my new Adventure briefly. It appears you may be able to drill a small hole through the backing plate behind the mechanism. Then use a punch, screwdriver or small rod that is kept in the vehicle to push the latch hook. Maybe cover the hole with good flex tape so water isn't coming in. Obviously, this would be emergency use only.

No, you aren't crazy. Whatever the QR code they provide you on that card is wrong. Wrong applications and wrong torque values. Oh, and what direction did you put the rubber seal going. Not shown. I went on RSI's site and accidently came across this. I'm assuming this is the most recent. A shame we didn't have this from the start. It appears a lot has changed.

RSI Posted this video not to long ago that has the new latches in it, which is the first public images they have shown. So they're at least out in wild being tested to a point. They have moved the date back multiple times on expected release. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kTNKPGxDec&ab_channel=SmartCap®
Nothing else really solid coming from them.

Every time I reach back to Mikes, it's been wonderful. Quick response - so extremely happy with their customer support. Just waiting on SmartCap to deliver the goods.

Question...so i am inspecting my SmartCap...this one panel slot seems to be bent or perfectly made bent for the front window panel. RSI says inspect but doesnt offer a QC reference while inspecting. Thoughts? To me...this is bent

Yes, that's bent, contact customer service and send them the same photo.

Not sure if it'll affect the integrity of the shell, though.

Im tempted to 1. Proceed with install. 2. Attempt to flatten and install.

Frustrating when you spend 4k on this and find minimal damage after waiting 6 months for delivery. Dont want to wait for a new roof.

I had two areas like that. Once you get the clips in and tightened to spec, it seals up. I have no leaks in those areas.

Good to know, that thought briefly crossed my mind. The metal in this area im concerned is "weak" so a silly attempt by me to flatten it would make it worse. I think ill go ahead with install and see if it becomes flush.

When it's in its 5 piece state, you really think that its a POS. But once you get it all torqued up, it really is a pretty tough and sturdy piece. Make sure you are using the right directions. There are a few different ones out there. Use the tacoma specific ones. Different torque values. I-SHEET-NA-TA3-compressed (rsismartcap.com)

Does anyone have pics of putting a 3rd gen tacoma cap on a 2nd gen? I'm curious how the back lines up, etc.

Finally got the smartcap on just in time for monsoon season. The latches definitely get scorching hot in the Arizona sun

Any updates on new latches, being able to open from the inside would definitely be nice.

Mine was bent in the exact same way. My assumption is that the powder coater hung the panel by that hole, bending it. It will completely flatten to shape when you assemble it. I'd just bolt it all together and enjoy your canopy.

@Mike's Custom Toys has assembled a ton of these... I'm sure they could weigh in on this.

Yeah almost every roof panel has one of those, straighten it and assemble it will be fine.
