That looks like a sweet third gen in the corner of the photo. Wonder if the owner wheels it, or if it's a pavement princess.

If it's in Texas, does the owner have bull horns somewhere on the truck?!

edit: and @OffroadAlliance.com are y'all still in Texas?

    @Naveronski

There were quite a few nicely outfitted trucks in the parking lot. And the one in the picture gets used. No bullhorns on any trucks at Smartcap, but our hotel's SUV had some on it.

We're inbetween locations right now down in the Houston area.

Hi - any update on when the new latches are coming out (the ones that you can lock from the inside)? Thanks.

    Hey All:

I have a SmartCap EVOa bought from Mike's Toys (highly recommend them, great service!) on my 2017.

Anyone ever add additional tint onto the back window of the SmartCap to prevent people seeing into the bed?

Since our recent visit to Smartcap's North American HQ's, we've received a ton of inquiries regarding the new latches. Here is the latest update we received this afternoon directly from Smartcap:

"We know we've been talking up our new Dual Release Latches for some time and have not been shy about stating our intention to launch them before the coming winter. We have been, and continue to be, extremely excited about the innovation they possess. In all of our testing, the interior releases have been a smashing success. Plus, the anti-freeze functionality appears to be a big improvement over our existing latches. With that said, there have been minor issues that we're determined to get right before dropping them into customers' hands. We believe it's not good enough to just be innovative—you have to deliver innovation that will stand up to the harsh conditions SmartCap customers tend to find themselves in. It's for this reason we've delayed their release.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to build the best, most innovative truck cap in the market."

Look great and we are anticipating heat within the cap EVOa here in Florida - so this will probably help a bit. Did you provide any other attachment between the 1/4" plywood and the smart cap other than the bolt locations along the beams of the smart cap?

Where did you source the styrofoam? I was planning on doing similar (maybe even adding bubble insulation sheets). did you notice a difference?

I think I need to trace a recent leak down first because I had puddling after a 10 hr road trip (rain for the first 4) I think either came from the vent or the 3rd brake light

I think this is the stuff I used from Home Depot, just cut it exact and it wedges in nicely with no need for any adhesives.

    https://www.homedepot.com/p/1-5-in-...Underlayment-Specialty-Panel-431178/203183010

And I think this is the plywood I used. Just cut the pattern accurately, I then put masking tape over the bolt holes in the crossmembers and then used a crayon and put a thick layer of wax over the tape to mark the holes, then have a buddy help you lift the sheet up slowly and press firmly the wood onto the crossmembers to transfer the location of the bolt holes on to the sheet……otherwise you will be drilling blind holes and that sucks.

And YES after installing all this I camped in the Sierra Nevadas at 10,000’ I think it got down to 17f one night and it definitely helped quite a bit.

I don’t foresee needing for cold protection in my use- but Florida getting so hot that I was hoping to lower internal temp even slightly

    thanks for the link

edit- so you used 3/4” not 1”?

ya I just looked at what I have leftover and it is 3/4”. You could probably do 1” but 3/4” seems to have worked fine and made it so the plywood set really flush up against the cross beams

I went through the entire topper today, touched every bolt. I adjusted my latches and got them all feeling nice and tight again.

I took apart the positive pressure vent and washed the filter with soap and water. There was a decent amount of debris trapped in there, so I’ll probably service the filter more often. The inside of the topper still gets a bit dusty but the vent does seem to help.

I finally got around to installing my MaxTrax mounts on the inside roof. I opted to not paint them and just let them patina since I will never see them under the boards anyways. I trimmed the threads on the pins to clear the topper roof. Used 3M 2-sided tape to help support and isolate the bracket from the topper. It also helps with preventing the bracket from rotating since there is only 1 bolt on each of them. It turned out pretty good and gets the boards up and out of the way in a space that was otherwise not utilized before. The boards and mount feel pretty solid but time will tell if it holds up.
