Its 100% possible. I didn’t intend to sleep in the shell though. I mean if I needed to I could but I have one of those Gazzelle pop ups. Takes 2 mins to open and close. I strap it to the Prinsu using the American Labs tent cradles. @ClassyTacos made a youtube video on it (Gazelle and American Labs). Game changer.

For those of you with load bars on your smartcap - what hardware are you utilizing for tying down on the load bars themselves?

I just got the FRONTRUNNER load bars, but I cannot locate any hardware to use on their website. I see several types available on the web, but I wonder what configuration works the best.

I see some hardware that has a round head which appears to conveniently match the access slot; but there are some offered with an elongated plate which would seem to distribute the load better... Of course without any of this hardware in hand, I an unable to tell...

    What are you guys using?
    TIA!

On this particular load I used regular ratchet straps with duct tap to bind the 24' long tubing together.
    I hope this helps:welder::thumbsup:

And who says the short boxed tacos can't handle long loads!
    Thanks for that...

I.meant the hardware that would become anchoring points. They would fit on the slots in the load bar itself...

I have always wrapped my ratchet straps around the bars. I never used anchor straps. Seems like going around the bar would have more strength than using anything in the channels.

Depends on what you are trying to do but the head of an M8 bolt fits in the Frontrunner slot.

You are correct on this. Especially for larger items. But a direct attachment point to tie-down lighter items independently would be handy

This is why I am a bit suspect of just the "bolt head" fasteners... I see some that have larger rectangular plate to slide in the slot. These would spread the load much better within the channel.

I came here wondering about whether the cap can be used as a stand alone camper...I'm looking at snagging up a used Smartcap for the purpose of actually sleeping inside it however doing some research says there is no way to open the smartcap doors from the inside which would defeat the whole purpose of buying it for that reason. Can anyone testify to that?

No way to open from the inside as designed, but you could make it work.

Ive locked the rear latches in the 'open' position and then pulled the rear hatch down. It stays in that closed position, and because the latches are locked 'open', you can't accidently be latched inside.

Ahh, ok so if locked in the open position the latches wouldn't be set flush into the smartcap and from the inside I could just push out the door/window panels then?

Yes, I've been on RSI's waiting list for years for them.

They did redesign the laches this year addressing the concern over them freezing shut, but they still don't open from inside.

Frankly don't have faith they ever will.

I have seen latches in their Fort Worth showroom that open from the inside. No idea why they're not released yet.

The latches are literally the only thing stopping me from buying a SmartCap. I'm sure I'm not the only person in that situation.

i checked the rsi website FAQs and it is exactly as it was 6 mos ago.

    https://www.na.rsismartcap.com/faqs

What is the status of the updated locks/latches?

We are currently in the development of a new locking/latching mechanism that will have the ability to be opened from inside the cap, as well as address the freezing issues that some customers in colder climates have experienced. They are designed to be easily retrofitted to our current caps, and we expect them to be ready for release sometime later this year.

They've been floating that line for far longer than 6 months, they've been talking about those latches for multiple years.

    I genuinely don't understand.

Has there been any significant revisions or changes to current smartcaps compared to ones bought several years back that would make someone think twice about buying a used one?
