Another update for anyone interested, 5x of my 6x latches are now failing to securely latch.
I have submitted my video/ photos/ info to RSI via warranty, not looking to throw shade just inform them and others.
Currently have a gas shock removed from each window to prevent accidental opening while driving down the highway... again.
Hoping to have a new set of latches out within a week or so (according to warranty emails from RSI)

Yes, this seems to have been a known issue with the early runs. They can pop on their own, or if they are holding, you can force open the door and pop them. The replacement set seemed much more firm and I have not had an issue yet for the short time they have been on.

Concur. RSI sent me replacement latches after I did the same and its a night and day difference. New latches are significantly better!

Interesting. I can see it does not have the rear glass, but would not think that would cause the price to be that different. Strangely the images alternate between showing the new style latches and what I assume is the old. Could be an issue for them if it only includes the old style.

Oh, looks like no front window either. Perhaps that plus the rear makes up that price difference?

This should help. No Glass at all is the main basis for the price difference. Means flanges with less welding and less bends plus the glass cost itself = cost savings.

One of the reasons I went with the Smatcap was the positive air vent since I run on some very dusty trails.

finally got a chance to try it out last weekend. At the end of 3 days I had just a very little dusting of dirt in the bed. And that is with the bed not being sealed otherwise. I’m sure once I get the tailgate sealed it won’t be a problem.

Anyone remove their cap for a few months? If so, how did you store it? Thinking saw horses with 4x4’s

    That would do nicely...

I thought of supporting the cap from the inside (roof edges - only to avoid having the full weight of the cap sitting on 4 small areas on the cap gasket.

Another scheme I've contemplated is storing it suspended from the garage ceiling. I thought of using the eyelets I've added as tiedowns on the tracks.

I've not pursued either of these ideas since I have not had a need to take it off yet.

After months waiting on Hammersafe to develop a central locking system for the various latches that are being distributed in North America. We decided to bring in another brand of central locking canopy locks. These are made by Furnlock the original SmartCap latch manufacturer. Simply replace your latches with these and connect them to the latch controller and you can lock your canopy with your keyfob. The install time is drastically reduced compared to the Hammersafe kits. We are still looking forward to Hammersafe's kit for the red button dual release latch but this gives those who don't need those a better option NOW.

Just picked up a smart cap. Pretty beat but I got a decent discount from new. New latches on the way and I'm excited to get the thing setup for camping. IMG_6315.jpg

Quick question. It came with the bin and drawers what are they worth? Going to post them on marketplace since I don't need them.

Another question. Where can I get replacement weather stripping for the side bins and back glass?

Can this just wire in to the electric tailgate latch & use the OE remote?

Yes the controller has input spots so it can use the factory fob.

No the latches come with keys. The cylinders are different on the electronic latches
