I just wanted to give my feedback on the new designed, north american factory Smartcap. First I order it though @OffroadAlliance.com. It came 2-3 weeks early too in perfect condition.
When I got it out of the box I noticed it now has a 3 piece roof. Which I was a little concerned about. For leaking and strength. Called RSI and they said they did this for shipping reasons. It all fits in one box now.
They also said they still warranty any leaks and the load limits is the same. The rear/front slider window is different as well. Seems like the went back to the C clamps over a bolt thought the cap into the factory rails.
Which is not a big deal but not as clean looking. New latches are working good so far. With the new roof design the instruction are not correct. RSI said to use the Tundra one box instructions.

Hey there, THIS is the exact setup I am in the process of assembling. May I ask which Front Runner rack kit you have (the lower profile KRTT005T kit or the taller height KRTT002T kit)? I am hoping to match the height of both the cab rack and Droprack kit atop the Smart Cap like you have. Thanks so much!

Can confirm, leaks water more than you'd prefer, however we've had HEAVY rain the last few days in the PNW. However I do think loosening some fasteners adjustments to their 3 panel roof and adding a little bit of black silicone would probably never be a issue.

The rain in the PNW these last two weeks has been biblical. Snow fall measured in feet. Mine has only leaked through the Positive Pressure Vent. I've made no attempt cover it. I have no leaks in the corners or anywhere else. I credit the good folks at Mike's Custom Toys in Grant Pass OR and their expert installation.

I've had this issue in past winters, but I went around the perimeter and snugged up the fasteners to address any leaking. They can loosen up over time and I've not had issues since.

By fasteners, do you mean mounting points or latches?

I have started to have issues with one of the new latches. Mine were all replaced under warranty because they would pop open on their own or if I pulled on the side doors. I noticed one of the new latches has done this twice now on very cold mornings. I could immediately relatch it and pull on that corner of the door, popping it again. None of the others are doing this. Once the weather warmed up I could not pop the latch again. Going to try adjusting the bolt inside just a little so it is not so tight to see if that helps. If not, I'll reach back out to RSI.

I'm referring to the fasteners used to join the panels together. That's where my leaks were.

just installed the three-piece roof version w/ c-clamps, and I'm having an issue with clearance for the tailgate. it's difficult to close the tailgate, and the back glass seal sits differently depending on what was closed first (tailgate or back glass). once closed, the tailgate is near impossible to open, even with the back glass up, and it looks like it's catching on the seal for the cap. i can pull hard enough to open the tailgate, but opening it like this will tear the cap seal eventually and is very inconvenient. has anyone had this issue and found a solution? i tightened the c-clamps to the torque spec, so i tried backing off just the clamps closest to the tailgate, but this didn't seem to help. wanted to see if there was a known solution before trying customer support

Check to make sure the spacer blocks rear of the canopy are fully hitting the bedrail. Sometimes overtightening the clamps will have the same effect as well.

Does anyone know if there are magnetic bug screens that fit the side or rear windows for when you are truck camping and want to leave the windows up at night?

Hey gents, been away from home for the last half year and before I left I was looking forward to those new replacement latches that could open from the inside.

I saw them at one point for sale on certain retail websites like Mike's Custom Toys was thinking about snagging up a set to be ready to install when I got back home but have all but seemed to have disappeared from the internet.

Can anyone fill me in on what happened to them and if they're making a comeback?

They had a batch that would fail after a couple months of use. They are waiting to release retrofits until they are confident on the updates. We will update as soon as we know when.

Just did the install with the new 3 piece roof today. I am a little skeptical of the seal between the roof panels, but it pinched together pretty well when torqued. I might run a bead of black silicone down the seams if I do notice any leakage over time. Took me and my dad about 4 hours total, with only a couple minor explative fits getting all the fastener blocks aligned with the roof panels. We grabbed 2 more neighbors to do the lift and place, which went very smoothly.

Recently purchased through Total Off-road (4wparts?). I love this thing but the automatic car wash water leaking thing sucks. Has anyone used the butyl tape fix for the vent with any success?

Is your website correct when it states you charging $81 to ship the smart cap cross bars? Their (Smartcap) website is stating free shipping then links to you as an online dealer.
