RSI Smart Cap

Just pulled the trigger on the 6' EVO Adventure cap this weekend. Website said it was in stock and we were already in the market for a cap of some sort. At about $800 more than a fully decked out ARE cap, I feel it will be worth the additional scratch. SS over fiberglass gives me more piece of mind, especially the way this thing can be expanded down the road. Cannot wait to get this thing in.

 

@OffroadAlliance.com I see the caps are shipping. Are the load bars also shipping yet?

 

Some yes. Those are by the far the most popular accessory and RSI just can't get them here fast enough. Some have arrived and shipped, more on the way.

About how much higher does the back rack sit then the front? Looking to do the same setup and this was my main question. Like two inches or so?

 

Also replacing my SofTopper with an RSI. Major factors are dog, security and RTT for a family of 5 (not to mention the environment coming from SoCal to PNW). The SofTopper has been great and I don't have any complaints. It has served me well over the past two years. Having said all of that, I am looking forward to my RSI.

 

You won’t be disappointed, we have a family of 4 and the extra space in the back is huge. It has more overhead clearance than a standard fiberglass shell also, and more than the Softopper.

The cap alone sits a little higher than the cab. The prinsu rack comes with mounting feet, but I ordered an extra set that are about 1/2 in shorter. I wanted that top line to be a little more even. Over all I’d say about an inch taller. I also added rubber door edge guards on the outside frame of the prinsu rack. The side doors on the smartcap hit it when opened.

 

After some rain last night I was able to find where I need to do more water proofing. I also found water in the locks which maybe why some are finding their locks to freeze in the cold.

 

Fill in that gap! I can see small drops from cap to bed, that that hole means major water coming when driving.

@OffroadAlliance.com How much headroom do I give up with the smart table?

Route Package Protection? wtf? I'm seeing those guys pop up, but don't have a clue dealing with them. FedEx is horrible, usually, UPS is decent getting stuff here. Who is normally used when shipping from Houston (I'm near Austin, TX).

The best thing I had in 2006 Honda CRV was a small table. Most owners never knew it was there, but the number of times camping with no picnic table made me appreciate it. Admitted I have the tailgate, but having a table came in handy.

My Golden Retriever is well behaved but set a plate of eggs and hashbrowns on the ground and they are gone!

 

The table drops down 2-3" from the roof. So you're not losing much.

Route Package Protection is something we've recently added. We have seen a spike in damaged shipments due to mishandling by FedEx, UPS, various freight companies, USPS, etc. While not required by any means, we offer everyone the option should anyone want package shipment insurance.

And my Golden Retriever would pull eggs and hashbrowns off the table is she can reach them!

This was my past "don't flop it on your side" camping rig. It went places it should never have gone, not sure if the dog liked camping or just fine eating when I wasn't paying attention.

With the "smart rack" does just one side come down, or both sides?

This is correct. It covers significant damage, but does not cover cosmetic damage. Also part of the reason why the Route Protection Package cost is so low. Again, you don't have to purchase this but a lot of folks are purchasing it.

The Smart Rack only drops down on one side, not both. And the cap is very Golden Retriever, and all other dogs for that matter, friendly. Another TW member posted this one awhile back.

 

not sure if it has been posted or not, but can someone show the inside of the smartcap? specifically the seems and where the panels come together. TIA

 

If the Route Protection wasn't offered when purchased and we have an issue with a delivery that is currently out is the best recourse to contact you guys (I ordered from your company)?

Just being proactive in case the shipping company damages it enroute. Mine arrive tomorrow so I'm super stoked but hoping it's in fine working order.
