Correct, but what the 2 wire harness from RSi was doing was omitting the lower tail light bulb on the driver side. If you just plug it in and test brake lights and turns it appears to work fine.... if you turn on your headlamps, one of the 2 bulbs on the drivers side will not light up if the 2 wire harness was used.

Talked about earlier in the thread here.... 528

Easy fix? Yes. I'm just pointing it out as I figure most people are testing their lights after install when there tail lights aren't also on, so they aren't catching that 1 light being out.

Here is an image of what I'm referring to:

Got my SmartCap put on today. I decided to go the self instal rather than waithing and paying for the professional install.

There was actually an issue with the roof panel on the one I brought home, it had been damaged in Shipping and I did not realize it untill I had everything opened up. The dealer (Top Notch Accessories in Anchorage) told me to bring it back and exchange it for one they had assembled already. They did not charge me for the assembly work.

I would move your cap to be in line with the bed rail plastic on the sides at least. Just a suggestion.

I'm not sure what you mean. It is centered left and right, and due to the internal lip cannot go further forwarded. So, are you saying I should move it back?

Looks like a shadow is blocking the front of the cap making it look like a big gap?

Awesome, talk about top notch service. Sorry about your damage, this ca happen...but eh, they made it better!
Looks great!, about the gap...looks good to me. Mine, on the front bottom I got just under 1/2"... but now I got trouble cleaning the leaves that got in there. I had to use pressure washer at car wash to move the out where I can pull them.

Naw… you’re just accustomed to seeing Tacomas as if they were boats or mini vans. If you want a solid, seamless truck cap, sure, fragile fiberglass is the way to go. But if you want a practical and virtually indestructible cap, that you can stand on, throw stuff on, attach stuff to, then the steel RSI is the way to go.

Aesthetically I like it better as well. It just looks tougher, sportier, like a tactical vehicle. If I wanted a 4Runner i would have bought a 4Runner… no sense turning my Tacoma into a 4Runner.

That's funny, that pallet looks oddly familiar.... I wonder why.

I mean fuck me for having an opinion right? Not sure why my post triggered you.

While I agree with you about the utility aspect, still think it’s a poor fit visually, especially the 6’ version.

I crushed the bed of my brand new truck by following their instructions to a T... Did 9lbs, and that felt far too tight. Backed off to 8 lbs. Took it to Arizona for car camping, did some very basic off roading (all stock truck, so did nothing crazy).

Very first trip, the center part of the RSI crushed the bed of the truck by about 3/4 of an inch. Not only is the bed crushed, the RSI Smart cap is bowed in the middle. DRIVES ME CRAZY.

It won't be a very expensive fix, but it is a pain in the ass... I have to take off the Cap, take off the lining, rubber mallet it back in place. Then I have to do the same to the RSI Smart cap, as it is now bent.

    F.....

That all said, I still love it. I just wish it didn't have the 3 pads on either side... They seem to be the problem. Are you telling me that those three pads can support 200 lbs of truck cap, AND any gear you have on top of it up to 300lbs?? 500 lbs across six 2x2" pads??

This seems like a serious design flaw. Why isn't there longer/wider pads to distribute the weight more evenly across the bed of the truck??

Anyone else run into this issue with the Torque recommendations...?

    Any help or advise appreciated!

Naw, it's all good... I see what you are saying. I'm not saying my opinion is the one right opinion. You probably have the majority opinion.

My point was that I think people think it looks better because they are used to seeing truck beds like that, like a boat, with smooth clean lines. I personally like the tactical look of the RSI.

As it's getting colder here in New England, I'm finding the latches are frozen (just like others have mentioned.) I'm looking to see if anyone has drilled a small hole in the back of the locks to drain water?

I'd rather have a little bit of water in the bed, vs. the locks being frozen shut..

    I need advice from y'all:

Yesterday I was assembling my Evoa, and was to the point where you tighten the bolts to torque spec. I got all of the bolts on the front / back panel done at 6.6, and was doing the nylock nuts on the roof / sides. I set my wrench to ~4 (it's HF, you get what you can) and as I'm tightening on of the nuts on the end I hear a pop, and then the nut and bolt start turning freely and won't tighten or loosen any more. Due to this I ditched the torque wrench and tightened the rest with a socket wrench to the point where I felt resistance.

    a) How critical to form / function do you think this is going to be.
    b) Anyone know how those nuts are held captive in the roof panel and can tell me just how screwed I am?
    c) Should I even bother putting the cap on my truck at this point or should I keep it off until I can get the one bolt fixed?

I haven’t had this issue yet, but this is exactly what I plan to do if I get a frozen lock. Had my cap since Feb of last year in PNW.

I’ve seen a few posts where this is one solution people have done with varied success. There was a guy from Alaska commenting on a YouTube video also, their installer is the on that drilled the holes.

I have no need to keep water/snow from getting inside so it draining into the bed doesn’t bother me in the least. I routinely toss in snow covered gear when I leave the mountain.
