RSi SmartCap (Photo Heavy)

From the pictures, I cant really tell, but does the RSI set a little higher than the cab?
Do you know if the mounting rails are compatible with Prinsu Cab Rack?

 

It does sit a tad bit higher, but not much. And yes the Prinsu rack is compatible with the RSI cap. You can even mount a Prinsu rack on the RSI cap. Picture here showing the two Prinsu racks.

Thinking of switching to a cap. Anyone know why the dynamic rating on the rsi is 330lbs and rld is more than double? Would also like to see if anyone has a cab and cap that have a rack that’s even/level all the way across.

That is the weight when driving. It is over 700 lbs when parked.

 

@Hanswdeuce on the RLD website it indicates the 770lbs as a dynamic rating. To be clear, I’m not bashing on rsi, I’m just debating on which is a better “value.”

I have a pretty heavy rtt, hence the concern.

 

Yeah, RSI at 330lbs dynamic is nothing to scoff at, but at 770lbs dynamic the RLD is just a beast. If you watch their vids it's because it's only like 2 or 3 pieces that are TIG welded together, so it comes fully assembled in a crate, vs the RSI which is 5 pieces you have to bolt together. I contemplated the RLD just for sheer brawn, but when I considered how I'd actually use it- and the fact that I liked the windows and look a bit better on the RSI...

Mine has only been off the truck a couple of times since I've had it, which is less than I had imagined but often enough that I still haven't take the time to figure out wiring up the brake light. I considered Diamondback for sure- that's a great cover. If I didn't have 2 kids that's probably the route I would have gone- oh and $3695 was the price shipped to my door through @OffroadAlliance.com

 

it'd be great to see some more pics of the Prinsu on the Smartcap from different angles, for example am I wrong or is the Prinsu rack slightly wider than the top of the Smartcap?

Prinsu rack is not wider than the camper shell. The one thing I had to adjust after putting it in hat is not shown in this picture is that the rack can only sit in one position which is further back then when this picture was taken. The gull wing windows come up pretty high and will tap the bottom of the rack if not positioned just right. With it adjusted correctly it has about a quarter to half inch clearance for the windows. For it to sit further back means that the feet that hold the weight of the rack onto the rails have tp be positioned on to two crossbars that sit closer together rather then the furthest two crossbars on the rack rails (which would give you the widest and most stable platform and weight distribution). I'm not sure if I explained that correctly. But I am waiting for a 23zero breezeway 72 rtt, and starting to think it may be too big for just having around 34 inches of space between the two crossbars that are holding the rack to the rails.

 

Looks good, I wish the rear sides were curved a bit to follow the box lines. Is this the RSI cap and is it cab high?, the racks...what make and model are they. I have the same idea, cap and two racks so I can strap down a 17' canoe.

So could you attach an awning on the Prinsu racks with RSI cap or would it prevent the gull wing doors from opening fullly?

 

@TacoNoVeggies I haven't tried but it seems like a lot of the awning attachments have the awning sit higher then the prinsu rack. So of it sits higher it should be fine but can't say for sure since I don't have an awning just yet.

 

Just picked up one for my 6' cement...I have a question though... is it possible to take all three doors off and run it safari style?

 

I took a look-see at the RSI at the local dealer, and I was impressed. After owning several brands of fiberglass toppers over the years that leaked like crazy and had really bad build quality, I'm going with the RSI for our new Tacoma that's due in a week or so. The RSI is built well, and it makes a truck look like a truck, not like some sort of SUV.

 

Question on the rear panel. I know it’s modular and the window is inside the modular back piece - Can the glass be removed? Meaning the entire window, or portion that lifts up to open?

I’m asking for when you might haul something that would exceed the bed length but not want to drive around with that back hatch portion opened. Or, loading MTBs over a tailgate pad.

I currently have a Softopper and after cracking the back plastic window in the winter a few seasons back I just run it in the summer with no rear panel at all. I wouldn’t necessarily do this with the RSi, but it would be convenient if it could be removed by pulling some pins or screws and tossing the rear panel out for the day when needed.

 

If you take a photo of the logo with a ruler next to it I can probably make it happen fairly cheap!

 

Not sure how you would take the windows off- glass for sure wont come out of panel, and panel is attached as seen in below pics.
