    The wingnut behind the wheel
The lock covers from Top Notch Accessories feel as soft and flexible at -8 Fas the do at room temp. So so don't think there is any reason to be concerned about them breaking in the cold.

Been a while since I posted on the forum. I've had the cap since April and still think it's the bed addition to the truck. Here's a few pics from recent times.

If its not to much to ask, would you be able to measure how much the bin comes into the bed from the inside bedrail and how much space is between the bottom of the bed and the bottom of the bin. It doesn't look like it takes up to much space. I want to put a fridge on the same side as the bin and want to see how much space is there. I just ordered my smartcap, so take your time. I have several months before i get it hahaha

So I have these lock covers, they actually do work very well. It’s gone from -10 to +40, I’ve washed my truck several times in different weather conditions and only had 1 issue with the latch sticking and I just worked it a bit and it came open. My back rotors have frozen up twice in that timeframe so that should tell you something. I’m close to Top Notch in Anchorage so I picked mine up, but they work in north climate/conditions.

    That’s cold!

I sprayed down the taco in a self serve car wash in Tahoe to remove muck… It was only a handful of degrees below zero.

I watered down the whole thing including the locks. (Conducting my own test).

I drove some 30 miles in cold windy weather and upon stopping (we’ll after dark by now) I unlocked - and the locks did not pop up…

I put my hand on the lock for say 5 seconds - They popped up with that bit of warmth.

I cleared out the ice and they worked fine even as it got colder.

Freezing is not a big concern in my case certainly not as it may be in Anchorage.

Just a point of reference from my experience…

Went through the local Cap World dealer. Since I’m deployed it was easier to have sent to the dealer instead of drop shipped to the house.

Okay, finally remembered to do this:

The distance from the floor of the bed to the bottom of the storage bin is ~20 1/4"

The distance from the composite bed side to the inside edge of the storage bin is ~13 1/4"

I think if a fridge is mounted under there, it would need to be on a slide out so you could open it. I have a 45qt ICECO fridge but keep it on the passenger side of the bed so I can open it with or without sliding it out. Plus it's closer to the power supply.

Thanks for doing this. I plan on putting the fridge and the box on the passenger side. I was hoping there would be enough room for the fridge and a slide and looks like there is.

got my lock covers from Top Notch, I was well aware of the issues with the locks in the cold before I got my Smartcap but being in CA I thought maybe it would be a non issue for me, I was very wrong as just getting the key in is a fight if it had been raining and temps are down in the 40s low 50s the next morning, install was as simple as it gets

I put mine on and sand that used to get in those locks no longer can with these covers. These work great.

How is that even possible lol. Live in CO, we've had freezing temps, especially at night, pretty much all winter. Last week it was in single digits during the day too. Haven't had one issue with my latches. All I did was spread graphite lube to the keyholes, and they've been flawless.

well I didn't use graphite, also my driveway is somewhat steep and I back in, the rear locks always get filled with water, I know everyone thinks CA is all warm and sunny but to put it in to prospective last week on garbage day my garbage can lid was frozen shut in the morning covered in ice
