in the meantime, you could buy an Ozark with the hopes it will perform as well as reviews mention, and then return and get your money back after findng out that it doesnt

I'm looking forward to the Ozark improvements because if they can bring their QC up, and keep prices around current level, they'll have a winner

    No doubt.

Also I wouldn't mind if we cut back on ice chest dick measuring.

In the end, it's a piece of foam filled plastic meant to hold ice while it melts. $35 or $350, doesn't make a bit of difference. No need to act like someone else's piece of plastic is shit because it isn't what you have.

I have not had an issue with mine. Time will tell I guess. I will admit though, the first thing that i can see breaking first on this cooler are the rubber latches. So far so good. :fingerscrossed:

I didnt realize they were making improvements. I purchased the 52 qt and it didnt perform well at all. Prechilled it for 24 hours, loaded it in truck early Friday morning and was out of ice by Saturday afternoon. I understand that many factors go into it, ice quality, heat, etc. but for ice not to last over a day was a huge disappointment. For the money i was really wanting it work

Bigger ice cubes will last longer. Maybe that's what he was referring to.

some ice you buy at stores is crap, those free standing ice machines tend to have better ice. Ice that is more clear tends to be better at lasting

I've heard about that... the better filtered the ice is, the direction it's frozen, etc etc... Something about clear ice being more dense (no bubbles), so it lasts longer.

    Yes, less air is better

Home fridge ice is crap, block ice is best choice

Bulk dispenser is usually my choice bc block ice doesn't surround my beers and soda, but if storing food for long period is the goal, block ice or packs will stay frozen longer

What about dry ice? I'd imagine that it would build up too much pressure since these are air tight. Maybe leave the drain plug cracked? I've never used it in a cooler so I have no idea if this is a dumb suggestion.

Dry ice I've only ever seen used in styrofoam shipping coolers so no answer there

The bulk kiosks are so prevalent around here now, when I know I'll be using the cooler, I throw a couple of frozen bottles and ice packs in the day before, along with putting my stuff in the fridge or freezer...then day of use, ice blocks are removed, cold items placed into it, drive to bulk kiosk and pay $2 and it dumps in so much ice I have to scoop some out to close the lid

That's what I do, but I have two frozen jugs of water. Works great, but takes up a bit of freezer space.

That's why I use multiple bottles and packs...I can move them around in the freezer during storage easier

I have no issues and my ice outlasts my use of the cooler most of the time
