RTT Feedback

I'm looking into building my set up and i'm starting to do some research on RTT's. I'm looking into a 2-3 person tent. I know there are some really good ones priced above $1,500 but i was looking something bellow that price. These are a few ones that i've found and i want to ask if any of you have any feedback or information about them, or if you have other ones you're more than welcome to suggest them!

I have the Smittybilt Overlander. I added a Columbia 3" mattress topper and am thrilled with the whole setup. It's my first RTT and it was priced right for a first model. Having said that, things will have to go pretty wrong for me to get out of it. My buddy has the Overlander XL. I like the size of his open, but prefer the size of mind closed up.

 

I have a smitty RTT ... for most people, it will work fine.

For someone like me who uses (tries to use it) every weekend, i'd recommend a Tepui ruggerized version

 

just curious ..did you add this topper to the original mattress or remove the original...if you added it did it close without problems or did you remove the topper first ?

In my Smittybilt xl right now. Great tent.

 

I've got the Tepui Kukenam (it's 3-man vs the Ayer which is the 2-man tent). It's small enough to fit over the bed of the truck, and the extra room is worth it. Anyhow, I've had it for a few years and beat it up pretty good. I've played cards in it with 4 people (me, wife, 2 kids) and it holds the weight (too crowded to sleep that many, though!).

Tepui 3 person on Sos Concepts Rack. Got the tent from REI for 1100ish after joining the club thing. Bed Rack was like 700ish

 

I got the same Tent and the REI coupon is a great use for the tent.

 

I’ve got this one too, bought it on 2014?, still looks as good as the day I got it ! Except maybe the cover is a little beat up, could use some Armorall or protectant or whatever.

If I were to do it again I’d stick with a ground tent honestly. I love the RTT, just I also like to leave camp and not pack up.

 

Smittybilt RTT myself. Probably add a mattress topper myself.
