Yeah, super rocky areas from what I've heard, so having the RTT up off the ground and just having the level out the vehicle makes for a good night's sleep.

Well shit. Since you said it can be done, I will do it. (No sarcasm). I'm just a very proud person.

Will do. This is a really good idea that's simple and I never thought of.

I just skimmed this thread and saw some good ideas, but Ill toss my 0.02 in. Im running a full height KB VooDoo rack with an Ayer 2 above that, so basically your setup as far as height, maybe a bit less weight. Currently still have it on the truck year round because I have no place to store it..

Definitely notice some wind drag, MPG loss, etc especially on the hills. But honestly its not super bad. No wind noise and the Tepui tent covers are sturdy as hell, cant image any wind damage.

As far as taking it on and off, for sure not a one person job unless you have forks or a garage where you can do a winch system from above. Just too big / bulky imo

Right on. That's reassuring that I wouldn't be the only one.

The only thing that does have been worried is getting to work and not fitting in the structure. Lol
I need to do some measurements today at work.
My current jobsite has a structure and I'm unsure of the ceiling height. But there are some tacomas on 6+" lifts and 33s that are fitting in there no problem so I have my fingers crossed but I don't know. I think with the 2.5" lift plus racks plus tent the top might sit height than a 6" lift roof top.

7' warning bar in the structure. That's gives me roughly 10 inches. I think the RTT is about 10 inches or really close so this might not work. Haha

It’s not the greatest system. Comes down pretty quick. Lol

Ya the spare tire is waiting for a new rear bumper with a tire carrier.

Mine lives in the garage when not in use. It would be a pain to manually load and unload it as my wife is as small as yours. I rigged up an electric winch system so it’s a one man job to install and remove.

Alright so there is another option as far as height. I built this bed rack that I currently have on my bed. I could always just build a new one ... I only spend money on paint which is about $50 so it's not out of the question.

I might as well build the sliders I've been putting off while I'm at it ...

Why not just get a normal tent and avoid this issue of MPGs and wear/tear altogether?

MPG isn't an issue for me. I don't drive enough miles each week for it to be a factor.
As far as a ground tent I'm trying to avoid that because of the terrain/space to pitch it on Oahu is limited. Also, the main off-road/camping area I can go has rules against anything that has four sides. The rule is mostly to keep homeless people from living there so having a RTT makes me an exception to the rule because it's part of my vehicle.

My wife won’t sleep in a ground tent anymore and I didn’t want to off-road with a trailer.
