I have a 2017 Tacoma TRD sport Double Cab with a short bed. I am looking to get a camping setup with an RCI 12" bed rack and a rooftop tent (TBD) weighing between 100 - 150lbs. My Tacoma is mostly stock other than some beefy tires. (KO2's to be exact) I am looking everywhere but can't seem to find a straightforward answer. Will the bed be able to support the weight of a bed rack and RTT as is? Do I need to upgrade the leaf springs or add bed stiffeners? I am not really interested in building an Instagram model of a Tacoma and I don't really plan on over-landing, unless necessary to get to my camping spot. Just simply a mountain biker trying to go cool places.

Also happy to join TW. Been a Tacoma owner for years!! Thank you for any guidance in advance.

Ikamper mini either 2.0 or 3.0 weighs around 125lbs. they are nice lite but you pay for it. I was just in the showroom floor a couple of months ago looking at them just have been able to pull the trigger yet. and yes the bed will be just fine.

KB voodoo bed rack, CVT Mt Shasta RTT. No bed stiffness. Stock suspension. Stock wheels and tires. No problems.

I ran a camp king rtt 200lbs kbvoodoo rack and all the gear in the back and after a 6000 mile road trip I could tell some minor pancaking had occurred. That is also three adult males sleeping in the back. If I was you slap some sumo springs in there to prevent any long term sagging.

Yes, you will be fine. In the long term, you might want to look into beefier leaf springs and bed stiffeners for longevity reasons, but your truck will be just fine for some time as is.

    Pre-leaf springs (sagging):

Post-leaf spring upgrade (and other goodies): minimal sagging
