So I'm really shopping for a RTT now. I have a Leer cap with Yakima tracks and round bars, and soon will have the OEM cab roof rack installed. Who here has a RTT mounted on their cap? And has anyone mounted a RTT to the cab using the OEM roof rack? Pictures are worth a million bucks of course.

I see that either way, wind resistance is gonna be an issue. I see most people have bars across their truck bed with the RTT mounted to those bars. I guess that's great for a lower center of gravity, though you can's see out your rear view mirror. For me, it's gonna have to go on the cap or the cab. Just wondering what others are doing in this situation, and why.

As long as you cap is rated to support that weight, it's fine.

    Check with your cap manufacturer.

^ Anyone have any photos of the Front Runner Load Bar Kit mounted? I'm leaning towards it but I'd like to see a couple photos if anyone has them.

Not the best picture but it's one of the only ones I have without stuff up there.

Thanks! What do you think of it? I got my tacoma a couple weeks ago and I've been going nuts on trying to figure out a roof rack configuration. I didn't realize until today that this one existed. I like the 'permanent' install of the factory but it just seems pretty weak. I don't need to go all out overland or anything so this looks like a happy medium and about the same price as tower/rail combos from yak, thule, etc.

I'd mostly be using it for canoe/kayaks and occasionally a cargo basket.

I'm very happy with it. It's much more solid than the factory rack and mounts to the same factory location. The bars are actually straight and flat unlike the factory bars.

Not bad at all. I have stuff up there now so its noticeable, but it's not bad. Instead of having the radio volume on 5 or 6 I have it on 6 or 7.

Why RTT when you already have a cap?

I slept in the bed on my sleeping platform overnight a few weekends ago. It can be done. But it is cramped when it comes to changing clothes and such. Though this will be handy for stealth camping on my way to Overland Expo West in May.

Last weekend I installed the OEM roof rack on the cab. This will be a handy option for hauling my Pyranha white water kayak (or I can put it in the bed on the sleeping platform). I have a Geo Adventure Gear GT-140 RTT arriving tomorrow. I'm going to mount this to the Yakima round bars on the Leer topper. There's really no way around preventing a loss in fuel mileage with a big block on top of the vehicle. Just thought I would keep it as far back as possible. Besides, opening the doors on the dual cab gives me better access to the roof rack over the cab (I'm 5'-6" so I have some short people problems).
