hello, I have a TRD 4x4 dblcab short bed with a SnugTop Rebel Camper Shell.

I put a Front Runner Rack on it and I love it. Keeps my power and drawer system nice and dry.

I recently bought a RTT and cant decide if I should remove the camper shell and go with a bed rack to mount the RTT. If I do, I would have to remove the drawer and power system and try and rebuild in a back seat delete type setup. I dont really want to do that.
My concern is If I stay with the SnugTop, would it be strong enough to support the static and dynamic weight of the RTT, plus the lifted COG issue as well.

Anyone have any experience with these issues?

Anyone run a RTT on a camper shell and have some advice?

BTW... the RTT is a Roam 2+. 146lbs. Added Human weight is extra 250lbs.
    Rack weight is 50 lbs.

    Thanks
    Ryan - TammiTheTaco

Thanks Liftman. Do you find it to be top heavy when you get off camber?

Only when I'm driving. You definitely feel the wind resistance.

To combat the trails, I went with the shock relocation mod.

I have tried to find specs on the weight of the shell, but cannot find it anywhere. However I have the Sportsman's package on my Rebel which says the shell is good for load rating of 500lb on top.

I just added this to mine a couple of days ago and have commuted to work each day since. I like it because it is tucked in behind the cab, but it still produces a little drag in the form of 1-3 MPG. Not a big deal though and certainly better, in my mind, than on top of a camper shell if you're concerned about MPG. If you like the space and security of the topper, I wouldn't be too concerned. If you are, you can always build some supports for the inside similar to how Jeeps mount racks to their hard tops.

Been running a massive RTT on a campershell. Took it from southwest Mo to Big Bend National Park. Drove the back country extensively including black gap (in my prerunner) and had no problems. You feel the wind resistance when trying to drive 80 out there in Texas but it still works fine. Drove over 80 quite a bit with no problems. Just bought a red 4wd first gen and just grabbed a camper. I will be moving my tent over to the new campershell without hesitation. I can run you through the numbers about weight that I squeezed out of some people if you want it.

Youll need something like this imo, the shells are fiberglass and cant stand so much weight on offroading , theyll crackD036827A-C3C2-4605-A512-C1ED7C8BAC00.jpgOr you can just do what i did
