Did a routine oil change on my 2017 TRD Off-Road today (odo +/–40k mi) and found many, what seem to be, rubber bits in the pan. I’ve never had this happen before and obviously am a little worried. No weird sounds, drop in performance or engine light… yet.

Some additional information if it helps; the rubber is quite flimsy with a yellow/grey tint, pieces range from small like poppy seed size to about the size of a quarter, previous oil change was 5k mi ago.

    Someone please help :(

Best guess, someone's done work on your engine. Perhaps a previous owner? That looks like overkill on the gasket maker stuff.

Perhaps the timing chain cover was resealed? If there is that much gasket maker coming off I would expect you would see some gasket maker on the outside of the timing chain cover as well.

It won't solve your problem, but you should send an oil sample to Blackstone to see what they say about it.

looks like excessive rtv. like other guy said. was common for timing cover to leak so maybe previous owner had it resealed. personally i would pull the oil pan off and make sure the oil pickup isnt plugged with that stuff. id never be able to drive it with not knowing in the back of my mind
