Any ideas for keeping the rubber roof strips that cover the roof-rack mounting platforms from blowing off in the drive-through car wash…better than double-sided tape?

    Super annoying!

I tried tape, and it’s completely worthless when it gets wet & soapy.

I took mine back to the dealership a couple of times, they said "they all do it, nothing we can do". I contacted Toyota USA, they asked that I take the truck back to the dealership and they would fix the issue....they did.

They put a dab of panel bonding adhesive under them to get you to go away. The dealer was more or less right when they said "they all do it, nothing we can do". Its a poor design from toyota and the only fix is to glue them down.

PSA for anyone going the windshield urethane route... that stuff is worse than anti-seize!!! gets everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE! even when you are taking your time, and trying to do it cleanly. dont wear anything you value, and dont have the doors or windows on the truck open, when you do this.

clean up only smears it. you need to use a good solvent to "help" get most of it out, off. if it gets on anything made from cloth... forgetaboutit!

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! Ski

    quoting for being worth repeating.

with even terrible prep-- a paper towel and a bottle of windex, genuine 3m tape holds just as good as any panel adhesive.
the hardest part is getting genuine stuff-- most listings on Amazon and ebay seem to be fakes. the few that i've tried all work better as door stops than they do as adhesives.

on my car, the spoiler is held on entirely by 3m tape, since 2016. the louver attachment points are also 3m tape, for the past 2 years.

I tried Super Glue, and it…just like the double sided tape, let loose as soon as I hit the air-dryer portion of the car wash!!

My plan is to shoot a couple of rivets in it soon. I bet that SOB doesn’t fly off then!

Toyota dropped the ball on this deal, for real. Of course, they probably just want to sell you an overpriced roof rack.

nah, superglue is too brittle, especially to a painted metal surface.

that really only works with a crazy amount of prep, and it's mostly plastic/rubber compounds that it bonds well with.
