Hey all, I’m looking to install a hurst / core short shifter in the semi-near future, but I’m not so sure I want to re-install the leatherette shift boot again. I kind of like the old school look of the rubber shift boots and would like to find something similar to replace the stock one. I know there’s a small rubber boot underneath the stock leatherette one, but I want something that will mount up flush with the existing console. Anyone have any ideas?

Actually, core has some hurst boots on their site that I somehow missed my first few times on there. I reached out to them to try and figure out which (if any) will fit in the Tacoma.

Well, it’s not the response I was hoping for:

“I only recommend the stock boots. There is no aftermarket boot that is going to work out in that application.”

Anyone else have ideas or recommendations?

I think the issue is that the stock one is attached to the center console and the Hurst boots attach to the floor via a trim ring. I'd look at the size of the base of the Hurst boot and see if it is the same basic size as the hole in the center console and then figure out a way of attachment.

That’s what I’m leaning towards. Any ideas on attachment/securement?

From memory, the stock boot is attached with a wire that snaps to the underside of the console. You'd probably have to replicate a similar set up.
