if you have the new Designer plastic style beams you may have to buy the whole new wiper beams with insert

Am I the only one that dislikes the wiper blade inserts? I always seem to rip them when there is freezing rain - happened on my '07 and again this year on my 2017. I swapped both out with winter wiper blades when it happened. Maybe it's a side effect of being in Canada, if there was less ice I could see it working....

Leveled with Bilstein 5100 shocks, Kumho AT52 265/75 tires, Redline hood struts, R4T tailgate lock, Matt Gecko LED strips in bed and under hood, WeatherTech hood guard, OEM bed mat, Husky floor mats, Carhart seat covers, Grille replacement with Toyota letters, Sony AX6000 replacement head unit, OTT lite/mild tune, and an occasional splash of fuel additive.
This is why I changed to Trico winter blades. But the inserts on my Tacoma blades were already a little worn when I bought it here in South Dakota and I haven’t given new inserts a try.

My originals lasted almost three years and performed very well up to the end, when they started squeaking a bit, even though there was no streaking. I thought three years was a good run, esp. considering how much use they get in our rainy part of the country. Since I have a low tolerance for noises, squeaks, and rattles in my vehicle, I ordered a set of Aero's from Amazon. They are lower cost than the OEM's and are working fine in our wet Seattle winter. Depending on how long the Aero's last, I would probably go back to the OEM's for my next purchase unless the Aero's outperform. Time will tell.

Love the inserts. Needle nose pliers and replace. On my second set that I replaced at 50k miles because of tearing. I've read a little 303 product will help them from drying out and keep them lasting longer. I'll apply some 303 to the rubber twice a year and these should last me past 100k miles. Highly recommend.

I keep a set of blade refills in the glovebox. The refills are super easy to change and the shitty winters here will eat up the rubber so quick. Of all the stupid shit I lug around in that truck....this is 100% one of the better items to have on hand. Should be super cheap at the dealer. Most guys are nice enough they will even show you how to swap it out if you have never done it.

Just changed out my blade refills. Old ones were 3 years old. Believe using Toyota o.e refills look better on original o.e blades and work much better. I am doing the same on my ‘18 Highlander.

try cleaning them as a maintenance item with either rubbing alcohol or white vinegar.

I replace my wiper inserts every fall. Pull the wipers out from the windshield. Pinch the wiper blade at the bottom end and pull it toward you for removal. Remove the metal inserts on each side. Put the metal inserts into the new wiper inserts with he metal clip groove at the bottom. Re-insert them.

So the inserts just pull off of the wiper ? Nothing securing them? I tried tugging them out for a good twenty minutes and gave up because I figured I was doing it wrong lol
