it looks similar to what i have going on this 2nd gen, worst spot after almost 9 years is by the cat
sprayed the CF RC 3000 formula to cover it up for now and try to deal with it next spring/summer
this corrosion free product seems like serious stuff
    no smell, no drip!
    blueish gel
but does not like this rubber coating to smooth across it

crossmember was rubber coated quite heavily, will have to keep an eye on it for peeling

Did you do it yourself or did toyota do it due to frame recall?

its my relatives truck bought new in March 2011 after their '98 was found perforated and re-purchased back then
they had the rubber coating done at the dealer or was outsourced by them
i am still trying to find the papers for it and any warranties for peeling

but am spraying the CF 3000 formula myself

I know toyota canada used vulcanized rubber coating from diamond kote on all of their frame recalls. Not sure if its the same for the states.

Same stuff I got on my old truck 4 years ago at the dealer:

    HG03v4eIVvRRNLKSjW0rqrqHf0jkF-XkXmiEGnLn_e4065fac6e9819736f279f6288999cfabf02d903.jpg kBL7X0pO-Lk5jGsCpIvvKP2sXGLHBT8l3DDr4CaW_b1b2d273b844500a591d582133a87caba7031fb5.jpg

The shine disappears after the first year or so. After 3 years it has a dull matte appearance.

    7jZtTRF5QOctN20WaRGF5qz1OEh-5maH7vMY0VSq_e04cb8dc31e4d987cebb7ea508b0972ba56655ef.jpg NAWQEo_TZxCoy-tY-VTgqIeVRPAcRHoz69X9E_i4_36fc498b446a9764b9fe2c81c6326242b52d92ec.jpg

The coating does stay tough and pliable for the most part. However, it traps moisture. The area under the front cab amount (subject to road spray) cracked and peeled, revealing bad rust underneath.

how many miles on your old truck?
relatives 2nd gen has only 42k miles after about 9 years and has not weathered that much but has cracked and peeled in a few spots
if its been trapping moisture all this time that is not going to be good underneath

How do you know its the same stuff? Is yours vulcanized rubber? Mine did not look like yours when applied. Please, do your research before just posting stuff. Also, take a good look at my photos.

I got a thin layer of vulcanized rubber, looks solid after 1.5 years.

Your coating looks very thick and looks like its tar based. Im pretty sure your coating is different, i know a lot about coatings now, i met with a guy that is involved in Toyota campaign in canada regarding frame recalls.

He was the one inspecting everything when it was all done the second time because i wasnt happy with how they did the first time.
They sanded it and wirebrushed it off, then re applied. Looks good now.

is your vulcanized rubber also sprayed up in the wheel wells?
i was poking my fingers around up there and it was kind of powdery and would fall down into my fingers if disturbed

There is a bit of overspray yes, but its not meant to go there. Frame and underside of cab only.

The dealer used Diamond Kote, same stuff they apply for the frame recall, only I paid out of pocket. Yes, it's rubbery, very apparent when the overspray on my sliders gummed up the flap disc and wire brush when I tried to remove the coating for repaint.

Is the CRC that toyota is using in their newest rust crusade in the US compatible with rubberized undercoating?

Yep. The coating is still there. After 3 years it turns to a dull gray color.

Interesting. How come there is all this rust on the welds? The coating broke down after only 3 years?

They gave me 10 year warranty so thats pretty good.

Thats how it looked after only few months. When i saw this, i almost shit my pants. Funny thing is, my dealer told me its sound and there is nothing they can do. Thats after i went to see "their guy" who did it. I told them there is no way i will accept this horrible work and after a month of back and forth emails they sent out this guy that represents diamond kote and is involved in toyota frame recall campaign. He supervised the techs the whole time and i talked to him after quite a bit. Very knowledgable guy, he told me 2018 and up had some improvements in frame to prevent rusting.

I had the worst experience with my dealer, there are other small issues regarding the seat that im still dealing with and they are just horrible. Bunch of clowns, i would never ever recommend new west toyota to anyone.

OP here, I'll post photos of my truck when I get the chance, but I'd like to take the time and say my undercoating looks exactly like Mrtacoman88. Mine is dirty cause I'm on dirt roads alot but when I first had it done it was this matte grey finish. All you guys posting the super gloopy looking glossy black stuff does not look like what I had done at all.

I agree, mine looks like a thin coat of paint. If you dont put too much thought and look at it, it looks like factory paint on frame.
