Hey guys looking for some help. I was wanting to level out my truck and get a better ride over stock suspension. I just installed fox 2.0 coilovers, 2.0 shocks in rear, and JBA uca. I’m running 265/70/17 KO2 on TRD PRO wheels 17x7.0 with 4mm offset. The coilovers added ~1” of lift, and the rear is stock no lift just airbags for towing/hauling. Had zero rubbing before I added the coilovers and UCA’s and now have rubbing even after removing the mud flaps. Did get alignment after changing suspension.

17x7 might be the issue. That’s a fairly narrow setup

The jba control arms move the ball joint back a crazy amount, so I’m sure whoever aligned it pulled the cams all the way back to make the castor lower. You will probably need over 5* of castor to get rid of rub.

I know I didn’t need the jba uca for this little of a lift/ level but I was thinking for the future if I decided to lift it more. Also I was under the impression that more caster would help with handling so that was another reason I went with high caster UCA’s. The jba have 3 degrees of caster built in according to the specs, I’m at 3.5/3.8.

It’s a common misconception that caster increases tire clearance. Adding caster via the UCA moves the tire backwards toward the firewall. To gain firewall/cab-mount clearance you have to move the tire forward via the LCA. An UCA with a camber adjustment can then help bring the camber back into spec.

Aftermarket UCAs come with built in caster, not to fit larger tires, but to help bring alignment (caste) back into spec after a lift.

Watch this guys video for more detailed info.

So a correct alignment can take care of this issue than?

^Since the JBA UCAs don't have any camber adjustment, the alignment tech will be very limited in how far he can adjust the LCA cam bolts to get more caster without throwing off camber.
The +4mm offset wheels are a big contributor to rubbing with 32" tires. Factory wheels are ~+30mm offset, so your wheels are swinging on a roughly 1" wider arc when steering.

So the wheels didn’t rub before I added the leveling kit and UCAs. So the UCAs are the issue?

Basically the upper control arms add too much castor so whoever aligned it pulled the lower arms so far back that they rub now.

So a correctly done alignment should be able to fix it up?

The castor needs to be extremely high to gain tire clearance back.

When I talked to JBA he said ~4.5 on the caster. Is there any issues going that high?

No but in my experience it’s usually about 5 for their arms.

I didn’t notice this until now, but your camber is out of spec after the alignment. Notice how it has a red background. If you didn’t request that, I’d take it back and ask for a redo. If that doesn’t help, take it to a shop that specializes in modified 4x4s. That’s what I ended up doing after my regular shop couldn’t get it right.

    The stock wheels are 7-7.5”.

It sounds like he is running factory TRD Pro wheels; albeit there are multiple wheels with the same name including some that come on 4runners. I have a set of Tacoma 3rd gen 16” TRD off-road and a set of Tacoma 3rd gen 16” TRD Pro wheels. My memory is that they are +25 and +10, but maybe my memory is wrong. I have 255/85r16 on the off-roads and 265/70r16 on the pros and neither rub, however I have a SPC UCA with adjustable caster and camber.

That said, I agree with you that less offset can cause less clearance at full lock.
