Hello TW - Over the past week, I've been noticing a rubbing/squeaking sound coming from my front right side when accelerating. It's not constant and only does it typically around 25-45 mph at around 1,500-2,500 RPMs and is fine before/after that. It sounds similar to a fan rubbing against the shroud or a loose metal piece and matches RPM speed. I don't think it's the lifters because it's not as loud and isn't constant. Cannot replicate sound when revving the engine in park or neutral, only when driving.

Any ideas what this could be? it's a 2012 TRD OffRoad DBSB V6/4W

    Thank you!

Update: Replaced the carrier bearing as I suspected this was it. The noise at low speeds has subsided but I still am having a loud rumble sound at 55-65 mph. No wobble in steering however you can feel the can vibrate. This only happens when accelerating.

    Any ideas??

I checked all just by moving back and forth with a flat head and there was no movement. The one I actually took apart looked great. So I just regreased all. I’m at a loss here

you might take the quick bit to unbolt the driveshaft from the pinion at the rear diff and move the U joint around to feel if its notchy etc. same goes for the one at the Tcase if you are a 4x4. Also make sure driveshaft weights havent been knocked off.

Update: replaced the carrier bearing - didn’t change anything. Replaced the u joints, rotated the drive train to align all the knuckles and balanced all 4 tires, this seemed to fix the vibration issue while accelerating. However, there is still a slight vibration only noticeable at 65mph. Above and below 65 is fine...very weird and not sure what to do from here.

Could be a case of more than one vibe. This one could be tires, or a slight dent in one wheel. I've been chasing a vibe that only occurs with one of my sets of wheels, and only when the tires are very worn. It took me 3 sets of tires to figure out that it's one of the wheels.

Is the truck lifted? Maybe it’s the needle bearing on the left side of the front dog if so.

Man...yeah I suspect its an issue with the tires. I have a slow leak in one i'm constantly filling up. And one of the tires isn't "perfectly round" as the tire shop said. I'm hoping its something as simple as this. Still annoying.

Is the one you are constantly filling currently on the rear of the truck. You said the vibe does not affect the steering wheel, so it's probably in the rear. The issue causing air to leak out could be the same issue causing the vibe - likely a damaged or defective wheel.

Yes it’s my rear passenger tire. The leak is due to a puncture, not the wheel. The tire place couldn’t patch it because there is another previous puncture patch within 2 inches (apparently it’s some DOT law or something). So I’m having to fill it up once a week until I bite the bullet and get a new set this summer.

Just run a fat screw into the puncture. It'll hold air better. Or even better, get a $5 tire plug kit at the local auto parts store and plug the hole yourself. I've had lots of luck plugging my own tires.
