A guy names Que, or Randy at CPC both rework factory tubes with good results. I've have Que to rework a few of my bolts, shave and true bolt face, pin and reshape firing pin, and radius the bottom of the bolts (except the .17). I like the quite stuff as well, my sporter (after radius, and softer main spring) cycles sub-sonics fine. It likes Fiocchi subs best, but I can't find them often. Remington subs do well enough, even standard veloicity CCIs (not mini mags) print well.

I bit my tongue when you mentioned that scope the first time, trying not to be a dick, but that BSA shit will never see a gun of mine. Had one, second trip to the range I dropped it in the trash, where it belonged. I've had good service from Nikon as well. Couple of scopes(Monarch, and Buckmaster), binos (Monarchs) and range finder.

Good choice on the Nikon. I'm running one on an AR and I really like it. For stocks, I've got a wooden one that I really like but i was close to getting one of the houge rubber ones too. I've always liked the looks of them and they are really affordable

Anyone have strong opinions on the Tactical Solutions barrels? From what I've read they aren't as accurate as Green Mountain, but they are less picky about ammo.

Soon as I get rid of my Walther P22, its time to build my 10/22.

I'm fairly new to firearms, would you guys recommend building up a 10/22 for a first long gun? I'm thinking it could be a fun hobby and not too expensive. Any pointers for a beginner? Good idea or no?

I got two Green Mountain barrels and they are very accurate and eat all kinds of ammo, I also have a Tactical Solutions, and it is as good, but for the money. I would go with the Green Mountain.

I have a Shooter's Ridge barrel on mine, it's made by green mountain. It's a great shooting barrel, very accurate and will eat any ammo I put in it.

Yes. The 10/22 is ultimately costomizable and for pretty much any budget. I'd shoot a minimum of 500 rounds through a stock one before modding it though. Get a feel for the gun and see what you want to change around. Rimfirecentral.com is the forum you should check out for 10/22 stuff.

Thanks! I'll check out that site. I can pick up a 10/22 for under $200 at my local gun shop and it seems like a good platform to start with. Cheap and fun to shoot.

Yeah, the best to start with IMO. They don't "need" anything, but there is so much you can, (and will want to do) to it. Factory trigger is lacking in newer guns, but that's a very easy fix.

Here's mine. Just got the scoped dialed in last friday. Nothing too fancy, but I love shooting my armored plates with it.

Without getting into politics, will the law being pushed on assault and high capacity stuff affect me getting an ar22? Should I get the con version and some clips first?

Zombie can answer this better than I, being from TX. But I'm pretty sure there are no stupid capacity laws there. I'm not sure what a "con" model is though. And a AR "style" gun uses magazines, not clips.

I thought about getting the conversion kit before the 10/22.
AR's are flying off the shelves around here. I can save a little money upfront.

Buy an AR lower receiver first if funds are an issue then buy an upper receiver down the road when you can afford it. The lower receiver is the registered "firearm" part of the gun. I assume an upper, not being the registered "firearm" can be grandfathered onto an already owned lower. Correct me if I'm wrong. Of course it depends on how an assault weapon ban is written. Who's pushing for one at the moment, anyway?

I "think" or at least understood that he was wanting a AR22, not a AR15, maybe I'm wrong.

D'oh! Nevermind haha. I wouldn't think a conversion to a different caliber would be affected by a ban. :notsure: Again, depends on the how the bill is written. If it is ban on hi-cap magazines, then for sure pick up some hi-cap magazines for the conversion.

It's all good, more high-cap mags (any caliber) is always a good thing.

Sorry for not using correct terminology on magazines.
    I'm wanting a 22 to shoot inexpensively.
Thought if a get a conversion first,I'm covered.
