Just refinished the stock on my 1966 carbine, also added some Williams fiber optic sights, extended mag release, bolt buffer, uncle mikes sling swivels, sling and Kidd ejector & firing pin and I did the auto bolt mod with my dremel. Thats all I’m going to do.

I just redone an old walnut carbine stock my self. I have everything except the receiver to complete it. I, like you am going to leave it totally stock, well in appearance anyways.

Yep, since the gun was pretty old, I just wanted to up grade some of the parts that I thought would make it more functional. Some of the internal trigger parts I polished the edges with a stone. They were pretty rough. Also the auto bolt spring from that time period wasn’t very good. A newer version is more robust and really made the action work better.

I probably like the older sporters the very best of all my 10/22’s.

My very favorite, 1968 finger groove sporter.

Probably my second favorite, Fajen stocked sporter. This one placed 6th in Ruger’s 50th Anniversary 10/22 re-design contest.

I agree, the sporter stocks are my favorite. I would love to have one and have been looking on the auction site. But I also keep telling myself, don’t do it! your starting to falling into the 10/22 money pit.

I do love that Fajen. That’s beautiful with that finish. The lines are absolutely perfect. Nice!

How does one find a stock like that?

Also I like your finish on your stock better, how did you accomplish that, it’s perfect. My wood isnt very good, the grain is funny in spots. I feel I almost need to hide it a bit.

I don’t think Fajen is around any more, but I could be wrong. I bought it several years back unfinished from Midway USA. MANY hours of sanding and countless coats of Tru Oil finally produced the “oil” finish I was looking for. After a month of curing I lightly sanded with rotten stone to knock off the glossy shine to it.

Any of the 10/22 folks familiar with the AMT 25/22?

I am. Wished I’d picked one up back when they were available.

I picked one up last year. It is the Small Game Hunter version with the 22" barrel and Monte Carlo stock. It is built like a tank, and almost as heavy...there's a lot of stainless in there. It is an ok shooter, but I would like to make it better using some of the common 10/22 mods.

Just this one right now...it is sitting in a Ruger stock while I undo some engraving a previous owner did to the original composite one. I'll try to snap a few pics today, as I have it back in the AMT stock with a scope on it.

Sweet! Did you build them yourself?

Nice. I'm kind of torn on this 25/22...on one hand, I know the stainless receiver is strong, and they were popular for custom builds back in the day, so I could build a nice gun out of it. On the other hand, it is in decent shape, and there aren't many around anymore, so parting it out for a build would be kind of sad. It does what it was intended to do...it is a hunter, not a paper puncher, so minute-of-chipmunk is all it really needs to perform.

Volquartsen replacement receivers are $500 up here...I can't justify that. If I was going to spend that, I'd be better off buying a complete kit or gun from VQ, and if I did that , it wouldn't be an LR...more likely an HMR or WSM.

So...what receivers did you use to build yours? I am considering one of these...

Seems most of neegdogdig’s builds are on Kidd receivers IIRC. Excellent choice, take a look at Feddersen as well. Tactical Soulutions make quality stuff as well.

Most aftermarket parts pretty much work the same all comes to personal preferences. Look feel and attractive rifles are in the eyes of the individual shooters so go with your budgets. 2 in the middle are Tony Kidd’s Classic 22s, top is NDS-22 receiver, tacsol barrel, JWH bolt and Kidds trigger. Bottom Ruger 50 anniversary high polished receiver, JWH bolt, Hornet BlackMax trigger with 16” GM barrel.

One thing to consider...if you are looking for accuracy beyond 50 yards bolt action rifle is the way to go all of my semi auto are pretty accurate but compare to my custom bolt action rifle is day and night different.

I'm good with 50yds for an LR. If I need/want to go farther with a rimfire, I have a Savage heavy barrel 93R .17HMR bolt gun, and a Remington 597M .22 Magnum that is surprisingly accurate. It is tempting to try stretching out the little LR though. A friend has offered me a T-Bolt in trade for my Golden Boy...now you have me thinking about it.
